"I hope you have a great day at work, Steve." Steve gave Viola a quick peck on the lips. It was a morning ritual to meet her husband at the door with coffee mug in hand, handing it to him before he left. Mornings were always crazy, but with his schedule, it was often her only time she got to talk to her husband. "Oh, by the way. I booked the vacation we talked about. We have reservations to fly to Hawaii on Monday."
"I completely forgot!" Steve tensed, caught off guard, "I'm sorry, honey. I'm just not going to have time. Lee Suki the president of Omnitech flying out from Japan and I have to meet with him that day."
Viola's smile faded, "Well, I guess I could reschedule it to fly out a little later. How about Tuesday?"
His golden eyes closed with regret, and he let out a sigh before saying, "That's just not going to work. I am going to be busy entertaining Lee Suki for the rest of the week. Then, I have to supervise the shipments to the Department stores this month. November is one of our busiest months of the year."
He was doing it to her again, choosing the business over her. Her fists clenched at her sides, in an attempt to stifle the emotion just below the surface of her chocolate skin. "But you promised we could go on vacation together!"
His broad chest heaved with a heavy sigh. Intently staring into her eyes, he conveyed the sincerity in his voice and his actions. Wiping away a tear at the edge of her eye he said, "Sweetheart, you know I would do anything for you, but right now just isn't a good time. The company needs me right now."
But what about me? I need you too, Viola added silently.
