Excerpt

Rose Marie Harrison drove into her neighborhood and saw a muscular, handsome man jogging down the street.

Her eyes almost bulged from their sockets and the car swerved off the road, from constantly staring at the caramel-skinned stranger. She was always a sucker for a good-looking man, and her heart melted faster than a snowman in July. With curiosity consumed in her brain, she stopped the car to get the skinny. “Uh, excuse me, I don't ever recall you living in these parts, are you new to the neighborhood?”

The young man, with beads of sweat dripping off his head, spoke in a low tone. “I've lived here my whole life.”

She pulled down the sunglasses and raised her left eyebrow in shock and was suddenly captivated at his presence. “Well how come I've never seen you?”

“I'm Cleotis Cutter, a former classmate of yours.”

An childhood image of Cleotis flashed through her brain. He was the buck-toothed, thick rim-glassed nerd she tortured everyday from elementary school until they had graduated high school. She always pulled his underwear over his stomach. Dropped ants down his shirt. Tied his shoestrings together and always made him fall. Now, the frog has morphed into a handsome-looking Prince Charming. He had her attention. “Well, I'll be damned.”

“I go by the name Bruiser now, because it goes along more more with boxing.”

Rose Marie mumbled to herself. Hmph, I bet you can bruise.

He waved goodbye and returned to his training. “Have to be going now; I'll be seeing you."
