Courting Damnation

Wet and Wild Series

Author(s): Piper Evyns

Cursed by a vengeful fairy, Harry has been forced to remain in the boundaries of Algonquin Park where every night he becomes a beaver.

When he accepts a job guiding Willow Hopkins, a wildlife photographer to a remote area of the park, Harry falls for Willow's adventurous spirit, inciting the wrath of the very fairy who placed his curse.

Doomed to never be able to be together as humans, Harry and Willow struggle to survive and find a way to escape their fate.

The instant she’d stepped from the car she’d known this was going to be the hardest two weeks of her life.  She’d always been drawn to men who were tall and built, and Harry Fullwood was both.

He wore faded, khaki shorts and a brown, button-up tee shirt that stretched across his chest just tight enough to make her toes curl.  The shorts ended just above his knees and she could see the bulging muscles in his thighs and calves.  Scruffy sports sandals and a pair of dark glasses completed the look.

If Willow had to describe her idea of the perfect man, this would be it.  Her sister could have the slick haired executives—Willow liked her men rugged.  Rough.
A gentle breeze blew through the lot, lifting his dark brown hair.  Sunlight caught the highlights.  No salon trips for this guy, she thought.  He had a sharp chin that was shadowed with stubble, though it was barely noon.  His tan was natural.

She realized she was staring and quickly turned away.  Put it out of your mind, Hopkins.  You’re on assignment and you don’t need the distraction.  With a grunt, she jerked her gaze away from him, though it was painful as he’d just bent over to pick up the gear she’d tossed so carelessly onto the ground.  Damn, he had a nice ass.  Her hands itched and she rubbed them on her shorts before reaching back into the car.

She watched from the corner of her eye as he disappeared down the narrow trail leading to the lake.  Once he was gone, she sighed and let herself recall the feeling of being held in those strong arms.  He’d smelled like nature, like sunlight and memories of playing on the beach.  Lord, she had to get her mind back on track before she started fantasizing about what it would be like to kiss him.

The last item to be removed from the car was the most important.  The well-worn, black backpack was her whole reason for being here.  Inside was the digital SLR she’d saved so long to buy, and the assortment of second hand lenses, filters, and other gear she needed for her work.  A tripod was strapped to one side, wrapped in an old nylon tent pouch to keep it from catching on branches while she hiked.

He’d be demanding, she thought.  He seemed like the kind of guy who wouldn’t let a woman fake passion.  Patient and just a little pushy and —

“I’ve already taken the canoe and my gear to the put in.  If you’re ready to go, we should head out if we want to make the first campsite before dark.”  She hadn’t heard him come back and jumped a little at the sound of his voice, blushing fiercely at the direction her thoughts had wandered.  His grin was just a little crooked, and made her heart flop.

With the weight of the camera equipment on her back, she felt a bit more professional.  Somehow, she’d find a way to keep her mind on her work, and off of her sexy guide.
