Demon for All Time (Demon Chronicles)

Author(s): Cynthia Sax

Book Summary

Hadrian, a powerful ancient demon, is in a bit of a dry spell. He hasn't felt lust in centuries, and he can't remember the last time he had sex. Then he meets Claudia, a demon so powerless she's almost human, and his interest in all things sexual reemerges with a vengeance.

She desires wooing. He brings her flowers. She wants him to chase her. He does… literally tracking her through the city streets. And when he catches her, he shows his modern female the benefits of taking a savage, primitive lover. With ancient demons, sex really does get better with age.

Come to me, little one. Hadrian's deep voice ghosted across her consciousness.

Claudia clung to her crumbling defenses, ignoring the ancient's silent plea. "Take me with you, Augustine." She smoothed down her twin brother's shirt collar. "I could be your wingman." She didn't want to be alone, not again.

If you come to me, you'll never be alone, Hadrian promised, continuing their private conversation.

"I can't take you with me, squirt." Augustine ran a comb through his jet-black hair, his coloring identical to hers. "It's a paranormal club, and there will be all sorts of dangerous beings there. I won't risk your safety, not with your lack of powers."

"I know." Claudia curled her fingers into fists and concentrated on the demon inside her, willing claws to grow from her fingertips. Nothing happened, her inability to shift into demon form the bane of her long existence.

Long existence? The ancient's chuckle rolled through Claudia's mind.

"Will there be ancients there?" She glanced at the vase full of daisies set on the hallway entry table. There had been no note with the delivery, but she knew who'd sent them.

Hadrian had been following her for weeks, undetected by her overprotective brother. She'd caught glimpses of her watcher in his demon form, his flat black eyes reflecting a loneliness she knew well.

Gods, I want him.

"Ancients?" Augustine snorted. "If they attended, the club would be empty. Shit, even I'm scared of those bastards."

"They're not all bad." Claudia held out his black suit jacket.

"They're the epitome of evil, Claudia." Her brother slid his arms into the sleeves. "They tear the wings off fairies. I can't imagine what they'd do to you."

Claudia could imagine. Hadrian had whispered the dirty, smutty things he wanted to do with her. She trembled with a sexual excitement tinged with fear.

"Stay home." Augustine tapped the tip of her nose, and she blinked. "And don't wait up." Her brother's grin held a cocky confidence.

Because he'll be getting some tonight. Claudia crossed her arms and frowned at his back. Unlike myself.

Augustine waved his big hand and slammed the door behind him, leaving her alone, always alone.

Never alone, Hadrian murmured.

You tear the wings off fairies. She scowled, unable to tolerate that bad behavior, even in a demon lover.

I've only harmed one fairy in all of my centuries of living. His deep voice settled low in her womb, warming her soul. And that was an accident. Don't judge me by the acts of another.

She fingered the petals of a daisy, a daisy he had sent her. You're the epitome of evil.

My power makes you hot, little one.

Her face heated. It did make her hot. Claudia squirmed, her jeans feeling suffocating and tight. She needed sexual release. She glanced at the stairs. She could go to her bedroom, take out her toys, and bring herself satisfaction... alone.

Fuck being alone. She was tired of solitude. Claudia stomped through the house, a house Augustine had insisted they buy, in a city she hated. She slipped out the back door into a yard too small to grow vegetables in.

Being reckless but not stupid, she glanced furtively around her as she crept along the cobblestone path, ensuring there were no witnesses to her blatant insubordination. Augustine would ground her for life if he ever found out what she was about to do.
