Ten Lords a Leaping

Author(s): Ilena F. Holder

Is it morally wrong to regift something?  What if the gift enriches a friend’s life?
Gayia has just been given a dance studio gift certificate by her friend Shauna.  Will Shauna use it?
No—she has some broken bones in her foot.  Besides, her grandmother lives two states away and will never know about it.  Gayla needs a nudge to make some changes to her totally drab life, and it looks like this certificate may be her ticket to a new improved way of thinking.
"Oh go on take it.  It's just going to be wasted."  Shauna shoved the cardboard ticket in my hand. .

"Besides, you always said you wanted to take dance lessons."

"Yeah but your grandma sent it toyou for Christmas."

"Gayla, she lives two states away."

Shauna stuck her left foot directly in my path.

"Does this ugly black boot look glamorous-- something you would wear on the dance floor?  Huh?"

I laughed.

"No, and I'm sorry you've got broken bones during the holidays."

"Me too.  But what the hey, I get a week off from the hospital job."

I fingered the gold colored cardboard.  These things just didn't happen in my life.  Rent increases, car problems, and bad hair days were commonplace, but not free dance lessons at an upscale dance studio.

I hugged Shauna.

“Thank you with all my heart.”
