The Ten Days of Newton

Author(s): Serena Yates

Galen Ocker is nineteen, a music student, and his enthusiasm for life can be quite overwhelming. When he meets Clifford Jeffrey, a twenty-seven year old mathematician, their external differences are obvious but so is their romantic connection. Since Galen believes in romance he wants to make Christmas special for both of them despite Clifford's atheism.

With his usual enthusiasm, Galen researches alternatives to Christmas and comes up with the ideal solution. With his best friend's approval, Galen sets out to make this the perfect holiday for Clifford. But Clifford has his own surprise for Galen…

"He's amazing." Galen really had a hard time putting it any other way.

Timothy raised his eyebrows.

"But it's true! He is. I walked right into him during intermission. I only wanted to get some fresh air, but on my way outside, still thinking about the wonderful performance, I didn't watch where I was going, and, bam, he was right there." Galen closed his eyes, remembering the feeling of hard muscle against his chest, the warm arms wrapping around him as he stumbled, and the scent of a woodsy aftershave or cologne tantalizing his senses. "Right in front of me."

"That definitely sounds intriguing." Timothy smirked. "So, what happened next?"
"He asked if I was okay but didn't want to seem to let go of me." Galen's gaydar had pinged like crazy as the stranger looked at him with smoldering eyes. "And let me tell you, I certainly wasn't in any rush to step back either."

"Sounds like the beginning of a romance novel to me." Timothy tilted his head, definitely interested if his unrelenting gaze was any indication. "And, does Mr. Wonderful have a name? Or did you end up running before you could get that vital little detail?"

"Yes, he has a name." Galen tried to look indignant at the accusation of running rather than talking to the men he found interesting, but he couldn't deny that's what he usually ended up doing. Timothy was right; Galen was too shy for his own good. "It's Clifford Jeffrey, and he's a mathematician. He works at some market research company developing models for them that are supposed to predict consumer behavior, or something like that."

"Well, that sounds impressive." Timothy sat up. "And complicated. How old did you say this guy is?"

"I didn't, actually, but I think he must be in his late twenties." Galen didn't mind one bit. He'd never really gotten along with boys or men his own age, and at least Clifford seemed to be mature enough to maybe become a reliable boyfriend. Galen shook his head at himself. There he went again, hoping for things he had no right to expect after such a fairly brief impression.
