Gage Tallon stood above the rest when it comes to apprehending fugitives of Law Enforcement. Yet, those skills are put to the test when Naeva Orien is framed for the murder. Feelings he thought were long dead began to resurface leaving him quaking with a need so strong it can’t be denied. The moment he looked into her eyes he knew he was lost and helping her clear her name seemed to be the only way to finding himself.
Dr. Naeva Orien lived a life of solitude and seclusion while working as a hematologist for a large medical research companies in the sector. Yet, her world is turned upside down when her lab is attacked and she is framed for not only the death of her colleagues, but her father as well. Fearing the worst for her own fate, she runs only to fall into the arms of the one man she would never expect, Gage Tallon.
Together, the two dodge bullets and a vicious enemy who threats to tear them apart. With the company of some powerful friends and gracious allies, it’s an all-out fight to clear Naeva’s name and stay alive . . . or die trying.
Naeva's heart slammed inside her chest the moment Gage rose from the bed. She knew he'd sensed her. How could he not. It was only a matter of time before he found her. Had this been an Alliance ship then she wouldn't have any problems hiding. Too many access points and tunnel ways for a person to stare at the same four walls all day. Yet, this was something very different.
Something told her Gage knew she was there. The way he suddenly jumped off the cot worried her. The curse afterwards confirmed it.
Naeva raised her head just enough to look at her feet. The light shined off her boots, exposed for him to see.
A curse formed in her mouth, but she willed her lips to stay shut. If she stayed still long enough he wouldn't see her. That was short lived.
She felt the bag brush her boots as it was yanked away. Large strong fingers gripped her ankles. He pulled her out in one tug, straddling her body. The next thing she knew she was staring into his eyes glowing bright with anger. The full weight of him almost crushed her. By the Goddess, she was in so much trouble. Now she knew this wasn't a good idea.
His face was so close to hers until she could feel the heat of his breath across her checks. Her heart picked up in tempo, seeing his eyes flicker with anger.
"What the hell are you doing here?"
Still shocked at being caught, she remained quiet. How could she tell him that she cared so much for him that she couldn't see him walking into this alone?
Or that she couldn't stand it if something happened to him. Last night had been so special to her, and just the thought of losing him after being without him, would tear her heart to shreds.
His fingers bit into her shoulders. Glowing eyes narrowed on her, pinning her there.
"I repeat. What the hell are you doing here?"
Naeva shrugged despite his grip, showing her best smile. "I…uh…missed you?"
She could feel the anger radiating from him. The thought of what he might do made her shiver.
His frown deepened. "I'm not buying that. I'm trying to keep you safe, Naeva and where do I find you? On my ship."
She pleaded with her eyes for him to understand. "I can explain."
Gage's lip twitched as if holding back a sneer. "I just bet you could."
He released one of her shoulders to dig through his pocket. To her horror, he pulled out a pair of damned magnacuffs.
Her eyes widened. "Oh, no. You don't really have to use those do you?"
His laughter chilled her. "On you? Yeah. You just proved you're a flight risk."
She gave a sweet smile and batted her eyelashes. "I was only coming with you to…" Naeva clamped her mouth shut. No, she wouldn't tell him. He wouldn't believe her anyway.
"To what?" he growled.
She shook her head. "Nothing." It came out sounding very high pitched and guilty.
"Fine, then you won't mind me putting these on you."
Naeva shrank away. "Yes, I do mind. The last time you put cuffs on me we…uh…"
"Had sex. Say it."
She shook her head. Her eyes were as wide as a child's. "No. Bad things will happen." Her smile had no effect on him either.
The menacing tick returned in his jaw. "So, having sex with me was a bad thing?"
Naeva scowled, challenging his stare. "No, that's not what I meant and you know it."
He challenged her right back. "Well, what did you mean exactly?"
Clam up, Nae. Don't spill you really love him. "If I tell you, will you leave the cuffs in your pocket?"
His dark brow rose briefly. His eyes thawed from dark and unreadable to blazing hot fire shooters. "I might."
Think of something quick, but don't tell him. "I wanted to see if you needed any help. I can be really helpful in a medical emergency."
Damn, she knew better than to mess with him when he's this angry, but how could she resist. He was the sexiest man to come her way. Okay, so she was goading him a bit, but it's not like she could stop herself.
Gage laughed, rumbling through the cabin. "Not buying it."
She pulled her hands out of his reach. "I'll do anything if you don't put those things on me."
He pulled her so close she could feel his hardened muscle through his flight suit. She willed her body not to melt in to him, that it wasn't the most wonderful feeling in the world, but it wasn't working. The moment his body came in contact with hers, her insides melted.
"And what would that be?" The seductive look in his eye matched the purr in his voice. Each syllable was laced with a dark promise. Liquid fire pooled between her legs.
Fighting the shivers within her, Naeva squared her shoulders and pinned him with a defiant glare.
"I'll do anything except sleep with you."
His eyes narrowed on her, yet it never decreased the blaze within them. A slow smiled crossed over his lips.
