"Where's my underwear?" a male voice boomed from beyond the shower curtain.

"How should I know? I put them back last time I borrowed them," the watery voice joked from beneath the hard spray of the shower.

"You're very funny. I need them if I'm going to go to work and earn that paycheck, you know? How would it look if I show up with no underwear on? Speaking of my underwear, did you make my lunch?"

Stepping out of the shower, naked and dripping wet, she stuck her tongue out at the receding bulk of his back. "Yes," she called. "I made your lunch. You ask me the same thing every day and the answer is always the same. Yes and yes, again, I made your lunch."

Christ, the monotony of it all. Did you make my lunch? Did you wash my whites? What's for fucking dinner?

Fuck dinner and fuck the whites.

How about you fuck me instead?

She giggled, then turned toward the mirror to drag her hair up into its usual ponytail, securing it with a rubber band.

Who needed to dress up to mop floors and scoop freakin' dog shit?

Her reflection was that of a plain Jane housewife, pale and sans makeup, scrubbed fresh and again, there was that word.

She certainly wasn't one of those Desperate Housewives all made up, banging the gardener. Tugging an old T-shirt over her head she rolled her eyes and sat down on the top of the cool, porcelain toilet seat. A glossy magazine lay unread in the basket beside the toilet. Her favorite savvy women's magazine that she never got around to reading because she was always catering to someone.

Someone -- anyone but her.

The splashy header caught her eye. "Have an Affair and Spice up your Love Life." She flipped it open, skimming the article as her interest piqued and the wheels of her brain began to turn.

Ooooh, she couldn't…

Could she?

She could.

If she wanted to, she could.

What would it be like to experience someone new and exciting? Someone who didn't give a shit about their damn underwear and a baloney-frickin' sandwich.

She couldn't.

Could she?

Well, she damned well better if she hoped to ever break up the monotony of her boring, mundane life.

Throwing down the magazine, she decided she could.

Yes, indeedy.

She could, err, would.
