"Hello, Dr. Milford. Welcome back to your lab."

The soft, sensual voice of the integrated artificial intelligence system once gave Dr. Xan Milford peace, happiness even. The simulated female timbre had been his dream of what a twenty-first century submissive should sound like, at least as best as he could simulate the vintage uploads locked in his vault. Before he'd created her, his AI had been the closest thing he could ever hope for.

But then he hit upon inspiration, as well as interstellar smugglers who helped him procure materials to create a cybernetic woman. The perfect woman. He'd programmed her to be submissive but smart, deferential but strong. She was everything he could wish for in a world that didn't allow for relationships that were not contracted.

Xan longed for more. He'd been born with an itch that was illegal to scratch. Research into history and human nature had led him to face the truth. He was a Dom. He longed for, craved, a sub. A woman who liked to be pampered as much as she liked to be spanked. A woman he could tie down and force orgasm after orgasm on, instead of negotiating the number of times they would have sex in a month in written form.

And he almost had her. If he could generate enough power to bring her to life.

"Report." He was almost afraid of what AI would tell him. He didn't want to look in the plastic tube where she lay. I really need to give her a name, he thought.

"There are no signs of brain function, though the heart and lungs are fully functioning," AI reported. No inflection. No soul.

But she would have all that AI didn't. Unable to stay away from her for long, Xan's gaze traveled to where his perfect woman lay. Skin the color of ancient cocoa, cinnamon, and nutmeg all mixed together. Inky black lashes lay against her cheeks. Equally ebony tresses lay around her head. Her eyes were that same deep chocolate color of her skin. He knew because that was what he had created. In a world where almost everyone had blonde hair and blue eyes, she was unique, rare. And all his.

"All body functions are working properly while in stasis. What do you wish to do now, Doctor?" AI was ready and able to do anything he said, but it didn't think for itself. When he was done with her, no one would be able to tell she wasn't a real person.

"Start upload vector one-six-nine. Security protocol alpha-seven-two-five. Sequence the upload in three updates. Time to completion?"

"Twenty-seven hours, thirty-seven minutes. Would you like to be alerted when the upload is near completion?"

Xan scrubbed a hand through his hair. If this didn't work, he'd have to dispose of her and start over. He had thought she'd develop neural pathways on her own, that her brain would take over as it matured, catching up with the maturity of her body. Now, a manual data upload, direct neuro-stimulation, was the only way he knew to coax the organ into life. Once the microprocessors were flooded with information, there should be enough of a spark to take over, each microscopic processor feeding off the ones next to it in the sequence. In theory.

"Yes. As of now, my lab is on security lockdown. If anyone tries to contact me, they're to be notified I'm off planet. If someone tries to break the lockdown protocol, alert me at once."

"Understood, Doctor. Do you wish to view your entertainment files while you wait?"

Xan hesitated. If he started now, he'd frighten the poor woman to death when she woke. He'd been secretly working toward this day for years. To have her this close and not be able to touch her would be maddening. Perhaps he should wait...

"Yes. Upload the Alpha files. I'll be in my study." At this point, his self-control was shit. By the time AI finished the upload, Xan was sure to be bursting at the seams.

Snagging a towel, Xan stripped off his clothing on the way to his study. If he were going to spend the next twenty-seven hours watching banned media, he'd damned well do it comfortably. Saints above knew he wouldn't be able to sleep.

As he entered his private domain, a scene played on the wall-sized monitor. A large, muscular male caressed the face of a beautiful woman with coffee-colored skin. She turned into his touch, welcoming it. Would she respond as sweetly? The woman looked up at the Dom with loving eyes. The look of a woman who trusted implicitly that whatever the man before her decided to do to her would eventually lead to intense pleasure...
