Christmas Reunion, A

Author(s): K.T. Bishop

Ryan Walton returned to the Mississippi Gulf Coast as a hero, winning a Grey Cup championship in Canada. During his homecoming, Ryan runs into the only girl he ever loved: DeDe Remick. They were sweethearts in high school until college drove them apart.

Will they find love with each other again?

The jubilant crowd erupted into loud, thunderous cheers over their hometown hero. “Long live Ryan Walton.”

“I’ll never forget this day as long as I live,” Ryan said gratefully. His left hand raised the case in respect after the ceremony concluded. He stepped off the podium and into the white sandy beach.

A heavy sensation pounded on Ryan’s chest and constructed his breath as a blonde, beautiful woman approached him. “Oh shit, it can’t be her.”

“I’m so happy for you,” the woman said.

His throat locked up and he was speechless. His brown eyes gazed at the slender, big-bosomed woman.

She appeared to be insulted at his silence and took it as an indication he forgot her. “I guess DeDe Remick’s not as good as those women you’ve been with in Canada.”

He exhaled sharply and words slowly fell from his stunned lips. “Who said anything about forgetting you? I never expected to see you again.” His mind clicked back to high school, where he and DeDe were voted Waveland’s top couple.

“Why did it take so long to say my damn name?” DeDe said angrily. “It’s only been four years.”

“The last thing I heard you were about to get married,” Ryan said. A sound of aggravation filled his mind over the Caucasian.

DeDe flashed her left hand. “Do you see a damn ring on my finger?”

His eyes looked downward on the small kid tightly holding onto a football. “What is it, son?”

“Can you sign this,” the kid asked.

“I certainly can,” Ryan said. He scribbled his name on the football and patted the kid’s head.

As the kid left, Ryan shifted his attention back to DeDe. “Guess we’ve got a lot of catching up to do.”

“You don’t have a date or something,” DeDe said.

Ryan rolled his eyes in disgust. “I was thinking you and me would go across the Louisiana state line for dinner at Cajunland.”

“You’re making time for little ole’ me,” DeDe said sarcastically.

“If you were with someone, you’d been long gone by now,” Ryan said.
