Chapel of the Falcon

Author(s): Matt Spencer

Victorian Whitechapel pub owner, Frederick Hawthorne discovers the ominous origin of an otherworldly pocket watch. Soon he is caught in a feud between ancient beings, stretching back to the witch trials of the seventeenth century.

The air swirled thick, as though glistening with dust, in waving, flowing, and trailing patterns of kaleidoscopic symmetry. Shapes, souls, lives, and tales lived and spilled, weaving their ways through one another. Their cries and laughter, words and clamor echoed down in a distant, steady whisper. Its frequency poured like salt into Frederick’s wounds, turning blood to fire and bones to angry nerves and jagged edges that scraped each other. His skull became white-hot metal that seared his brain. He swayed like a sack of rotting vegetables, then spread and planted his feet. He clenched his teeth and fists until all his muscles tightened. The longer he held out, the more violently he quivered. Sweat drenched him, and his eyes stung and watered afresh.
“Fred!” When Louchea touched him, the agony flashed brighter still, so he howled and nearly buckled.
