A reluctant young Queen is called upon to bring her world back into balance.
Jaree didn’t choose her blood. But she is the sole survivor of a line of kings that have kept the peace for a thousand years. But the line is broken and a war breaks out. And now she must become the thing she dreads most – a Queen. Her only allies are a group of barbarians, and the mysterious stones that enable her to commune with the spirit world. Can she control them? Or have the spirits already been corrupted by her evil nemesis? Her world is out of balance and only she can bring it back into harmony. But first she must uncover the secret of the Talking Stones.
She opened the wide doors to the balcony and stepped out. The night was fresh and fragrant. She saw the five moons shifting quietly through thin cloud cover. They were almost full, bright yellow with a thin aura around them. Jaree looked at the hues that encircled them: red, green, white, purple and blue.
She was struck with an epiphany!
She gathered up her stones and sat down on the balcony. She placed them in the exact order of the moons: red, green, white, purple and blue. She sat cross-legged and stared at them.
This time there was no awkward vibration. There was no white mist to fight through. No confusion whatsoever. Instead there was a beatific sense of welcome. Jaree’s thoughts sailed across Teranea, and then she realized it wasn’t her thoughts at all that flew so freely. It was her soul. The spirits of Teranea made a path for her and she floated magically across the land. Her insides were warm. A feeling of pure contentment washed over her.
A large body of water appeared before her. She drifted across it, drawn to a houseboat on the far shore. There she found a man hunched over a map. She knew immediately who it was. She fearlessly entered his thoughts.
