Forbidden Twice

Author(s): Genia Avers

Book 3 in The Lanatus Chronicles
Fantasy Romance

Nally doesn’t stand a chance. Who would believe her sweet, innocent twin could possibly possess the non-magical skill of voice projection? No one, of course, so Nally looks as though she really says vile things, and her reputation plummets. She travels to Gatsle, land of the dark elves, in hopes of a fresh start, and there meets Prince Ronan. She believes she might finally have a sliver of happiness—until her twin sets her sights on the same handsome  Dökkálfar.

Things become unsettled in Gatsle as the twins’ romantic competition escalates: tremors shakes the planet, rare thunderstorms send lightning arcing the land, and the first volcano erupts. Ronan insists the unnatural events are related to the twins’ disagreements, but is he right? And even if he is, will the sacrifice of love be enough to save the planet?

“Stand back!”

Nally heard Ronan shout but couldn’t see him. She saw light. And color. A myriad of reds, purples, and green—a lazy cyclone of pigment.

Green the color of Ronan’s eyes.

She felt his breath on her brow.

Her heart seemed to do a little jig—beating faster and faster in some ancient dance. She couldn’t breathe. She began to choke. The visual spectrum faded.

The blackness parted. Slowly. Bits of light penetrated the fog gripping her mind. She blinked, wondering what happened to her vision.

“Nally?” Ronan whispered her name. Almost like a caress.

His arms held her against his chest. She didn’t remember him reaching for her. How had she gotten into her room?

Awareness threatened to overwhelm. “What happened?”

“Don’t talk, Sweetheart. Your sister will be here soon.”

Quika? Talk about your fantasy kill. Where had her twin gone?

“Why is she coming here?”

“To heal you sweetheart. You took quite a hit.”

“Hit? Is that why my head hurts? Quika hit me?”

Ronan laughed, the sound almost as yummy as the arms around her back. “No, brat. The lightning got you.”

His lips materialized through her fog. Maybe her mind played tricks on her, for surely his mouth couldn’t be only a mere centimeter away.

His Adam’s apple undulated. “You have a rather strange effect on me, Nally.”

“What do you mean?”

He leaned forward, brushing his lips against hers. Lightning had surely struck again. She’d experienced a volt of energy—power surged through her body, making her feel alive. Wanted.

She encircled her arms around his neck, bringing her body tight against the hardness of his chest. The power swelled again, flowing into her limbs and pulsating with pleasure. Wonder exploded in her mind. Music played in the background. She felt good. Right. Home.

She hesitated for a mere second before returning his kiss. Tightening her grip on his shoulder, her body melted into his. As if she and Ronan had become one.

Nally didn’t want the moment to end. Ever.

Ronan groaned.

She sensed him pulling away. She couldn’t let that happen. She splayed her hand against the back of his neck, holding his face to hers. Arching forward, she pressed her breasts against him.

He groaned again, but didn’t pull away. Instead, he pulled her into his lap and deepened the kiss. He parted her lips with his tongue, exploring her mouth.

Everything tingled. The music increased in tempo. Colors returned. Dancing, mesmerizing images of musical scores. A kaleidoscope of love twirling faster and faster.

His fingers squeezed a breast. She wondered if she could die from the sensation.

He pulled out of the kiss, looking in her eyes. “Nal.”

After a little shake of his head, he ran his finger over her lips. “So lovely.”

Then he kissed her again. A kiss so perfect, it should have been the model for all kisses. Good thing he held her, because she might have collapsed from sheer pleasure.

A blast of drums echoed in her head. As the kiss deepened, cymbals and castanets joined the percussion serenade. Nally didn’t know if the rhythmic thumping was real or an echo of her heartbeat. Whatever it was, she’d never heard anything so beautiful. Finally. She’d found her place in the world.

Something tugged at her brain. A sound? An echo?

No matter. Nally pushed all thoughts aside. She’d found paradise and never wanted to leave.

He pulled the front of her gown down to touch her skin. She didn’t even consider stopping him.

She smiled up at him, pleased he was pleased.

He gazed at her with half-lidded eyes. “Visual perfection.”

“I’ll take that as a compliment.”

“That would be the logical assumption.” He leaned forward, his lips mere inches from a repeat of paradise. Then he hesitated, turning his head slightly.

A flicker in her peripheral vision crashed into her paradise. Someone opened the door

Ronan jumped back, giving her a little shove. “Gatsbreath.”

Then he dumped her unceremoniously on the floor.
