Excerpt

A pair of shorts hung loosely over his legs and a muscle shirt clung to his torso and arms. With his head dipped and his taped hands balled into fists, his body swayed.
Bolted to the ceiling, a punching bag swung lazily before him.
He stepped back then lunged forward. His biceps flexed as he struck the bag, and again with the other fist. Perspiration leaked down his face and arm, and popped off his muscles as he repeatedly pummeled the bag with angry force.
Her mouth went dry just watching him. Everything bulged and contracted with his movement.
Heat flared up between her thighs. Blinking rapidly, she grabbed onto the door handle and sucked in a shaky breath. Maybe she should’ve rejected his proposal and gone back to the hotel to think things through. Seeing him like this would only make it harder to concentrate on the job at hand.
All of a sudden, his head snapped up and turned in her direction. Those eyes seized her where she stood.
Gasping, she spun around and scurried from the door. Hard rock music shattered the stillness of the corridor.
“Hey!”
Without looking back or thinking, she started to run like the boogey man was chasing her and would’ve screamed if her breath wasn’t caught in her throat.
“Josephine, why are you running?” Humor laced his voice.
She stopped dead in her tracks.
“Jesus woman, you’d think I was an axe murderer or something. I know I can be a bit of a douche sometimes, but I’m not scary, am I?”
Embarrassed, she turned to face him and met his azure gaze.
As he neared her, he soaked up the sweat from his neck with a small towel. His eyes slid down her body to her bare feet. Smiling, he took his time bringing his attention back to her face.
“I uh…” She swallowed hard then backed away from him. “I didn’t want to interrupt you so I—”
“Thought if you ran, I’d forget that I saw you standing there?” He raked his fingers through his sweat soaked hair and chuckled. “You move fast, but not that fast.”
His laughing eyes almost made her giggle at her own silliness, but in her hot and bothered condition, she couldn’t even crack a smile. Only thing she could do was gawk at him. She zoned in on his chiseled pecs and squirmed in place as moisture built at the juncture of her thighs. The pure masculine scent of him made her nipples stand on end.
If this man didn’t go shower and change right now, she’d give into the urge to lick the sweat right off of him.
“Did you need something?”
The softness of his voice increased the throbbing need circling her nether regions. She looked up into his face.
Something enticingly dangerous played on his expression. His lids lowered and the corner of his lips curved. He knew. He knew exactly what his sweaty masculine presence did to her and from the look on his face, he was about to act on it.
Ripping her gaze from his, she took another step back. “Uhm, II was just, looking around and…” Dammit, she’d always been quick with the tongue, now she couldn’t even think of what to say to iron out this incredibly awkward situation. “Youyou have a lovely home. I hope, uh, I wasn’t being intrusive by taking a look around.” Feeling the heat of his body creep in on her, she took another step back.
“No, not at all.” The seduction in his eyes deepened. “Is that what you came down to tell me?” He took a step forward and made her attempt to flee more complicated.
Damn him! He’s not about to make me trip all over myself.
Josephine stood her ground, balled her fingers into a fist and lifted her chin. “Coffee!” Her voice echoed through the quiet space. “I was wondering where you kept the coffee. I want to make some.”
“Ah.” Pure amusement danced in his eyes. “Did you look in the refrigerator?”
Lowering her chin, she relaxed her stance. “No,” she muttered.
A wry smile flitted briefly across his sensuous lips. He took one lengthy step forward and closed the gap between them.
Trapped in the shadow of his allure, she couldn’t move. It was almost like he held her in place with his gaze. Her breasts rose and fell with her panting breaths. The heat radiating from his close proximity set her entire body ablaze.
“Goodness,” she pushed out on a shaky breath. “Where, uhthe, the coffee?”
“Refrigerator,” he whispered, lowering his head to hers.
Swallowing hard, she scampered back and nearly tripped over the first tread of the stairs. “Yep okay, got it, fridge.”
She squeezed the handrail, dashed up the stairs, and didn’t dare look back at him until she got to the second floor.
From the first floor, he stared up at her as he peeled the tape from his hands. “You have beautiful feet.” He then turned and ambled down the corridor.
She looked down at her feet. Her French manicured toes wiggled under her appraisal. She brushed a nervous hand over her locks, and sighed heavily before heading back up to the office.
Great. Just her luck to get one of the biggest projects of her career, to work alongside the nationally known architect, Devon Sparks, just to find out the hard way that behind the tough exterior, he was a goddamn Casanova.
And good at it to.
