Excerpt

Angel stared out the window at the dark, stormy night. She impatiently ran a hand through her long, raven hair. She could not help but wonder what was taking so long.

A phone rang, interrupting Angel’s thoughts.

Angel turned from the window, made her way tothe coffee table, ande picked up the simple black cell phone. She flipped it opened and answered it, “Go ahead.”

On the other end of the line, a rugged male’s voice replied, “I’m sending you information on the package.” There was the sound of typing and then he said, “Check your computer.”

Angel sat on the couch, flipped opened a slim, small notebook and replied, “Checking now.” She pressed a few keys
and the computer screen dissolved into the information she needed. Angel scanned the pages and said, “Got it.”

“Good. Now you know what to do.”

Angel pressed a key, closed the computer and replied, “I know.”

“The package won’t be easy to get.”

Angel massaged the back of her neck and replied, “I know.”

“Don’t screw this up. You know what will happen if you do?”

Angel stood from the couch, placed items in a small black duffel bag and replied, “I don’t need to be reminded.”

There was a grunt and then the sound of the dial tone.

Angel flipped her cell phone closed and slipped it into the front pocket of her well worn in jeans. She placed a full clip and a 9MM with attached silencer into her duffel bag and zipped it up.

Angel surveyed the tiny spotless living room and smiled. She picked up the duffel bag and made her way to the front door, then scooped up her car keys and without a backwards glance exited the house she rented.

Cullen leaned back in the back seat of the limo, clutched his cell phone to his ear and demanded, “Why the hell not?”

He slid a hand down his clean-shaven face, sighed and replied, “I don’t care what they want! You’re supposed to be my right hand man and know what to do in this type of situation!”

Cullen frowned and rolled his eyes at the frantic caller. He lowered his voice and said, “Fire them. Fire the lot of them for all I care. Just see that it’staken care of.”

Thefrazzled caller stammered, “Yes…yes…sir. I‘ll…see to…”

Cullen hung up on the caller and poured himself another glass of whiskey. He happened to glance out the blacked out window and noticed a slim, beautiful, leggy blond. She stood beside a car with the hood propped up and looked none too pleased in the scorching heat of the Arizona desert. Cullen recognized her from the start and knew things were going to get interesting. Why wait for her to come to him? No. He was going to come to her first.

Cullen downed his whiskey, pressed a button that lowered the privacy barrier and said to the driver, “Gordon, pull over.”

Gordon glanced into the review mirror, nodded his head and did what he was told.

When the car had pulled over Cullen opened the back door and exited the limo.He made his way to the leggy blond and asked, “Need any help, there?”

The leggy blond eyed Cullen and replied, “Yes, yes I do.” She smiled shyly and said, “Silly me.I’ve gone and run out of gas.”

Cullen eyed the heartbreaker and replied, “It happens to the best of us.” He knew the beauty would break his heart if given the chance. She would also break his legs, arms and neck and smile while doing it. He had to give it to her, she was creative. Cullen flashed a smile, held out his hand and said, “I’m Holden.Holden Barr…”

The lethal blond smiled and interrupted, “Oh, I know who you are.” She wiped her hand on her well worn in jeans and added, “I’ve seen your face plastered on billboards.” She smiled, shook Cullen’s hand and replied, “I’m Stormy. Stormy Holloway.”

Cullen smiled, wiped sweat from his brow and said, “Don’t believe all the hype.”

Angel mirrored Cullen and replied, “Oh, I never do.” She slammed the hood of the car into place and said, “There’s always more to it than meets the eye. The media always twists things around to get a good story.”

Cullen nodded his head at her remark and replied, “Ain’t that the truth.” It was time to put on a show. He wiped his brow and said, “Let’s get out of this awful heat before we pass out.”

Angel mimicked the strikingly handsome man and replied, “I’m glad you brought it up. I’m feeling a tad bit light-headed.” She touched her sweat-covered forehead, weaved slightly on her feet and said, “Woo, I think I‘m going to faint.”

Cullen slid a strong arm around Angel’s slim waist and replied, “Oh, no. Let’s not do a thing like that.” He led Angel to the limo and said, “Hang in there. We’re almost to my limo.”

Angel leaned heavily against Cullen and murmured incoherently.

Cullen opened the passenger door of the limo and helped Angel into the back seat.So he had a little actress on his hands. His job never ceased to entertain him. Cullen slid in after Angel, slammed the back door shut and to Gordon said, “You know where to go.”

Angel slumped in the back seat, murmured incoherently and then fell silent.

Cullen yanked a hanker-shift from the breast pocket of his tuxedo and ordered, “Step on it!” He poured bottled water onto the handkerchief and pressed it against Angel’s sweat-covered forehead. Cullen wanted to cover her mouth with the wet rag and gag her until she took her last breath. He could fantasize. No harm in that.
