Auld Lang Syne

Author(s): Mark Casigh

Erotic Romance

This story made me remember someone I hadn't thought about in years. And yes, the memories were just as meltingly hot as the scenes in this story. Read it, and remember your own 'Auld Lang Syne.

Excerpt

Until that moment, Sheila had forgotten that Mike mysteriously vanished after their junior year in high school. Just never came back. She had the vaguest memory that she’d heard he joined the service, which in 1980s Brooklyn was tantamount to joining the Foreign Legion or perhaps not quite as honorable as joining the circus.
Sheila tried to deal with her conflicted emotions. Yeah, I'll bet! A long story... Ha!
Listen to you, Sheila, he was the only boy at Sacred Hearts that ever did anything for you, ever showed you a measure of affection, a hint of desire, any sort of want to be with you. Genuinely with you. And you can't give him the benefit of the doubt? That's not like you at all, Sheila!
You've been hurt before by men just like him. Why would you want to set yourself up for so much pain? And just before Christmas? To make that—the most loneliest of days—even worse? What's the sense in that?
That's not fair! He was never like that before, and he probably still isn't. He might have a legitimate story to tell—and you don't know because you haven't heard it yet. Here you are, using the yardstick of every miserable man that you've ever dated, and comparing him to that. You're using the wrong yardstick, Sheila.
So what should I do?
I don't know. Perhaps you should let him take the lead, see what he has in mind? But in the meantime? Just jump in and start swimming.

Not knowing what else to do, Sheila went about restacking and reshelving the returns. She hated men who didn’t call back. It was a lifelong gripe of hers. “Yeah, sure babe, I’ll call you during the week…” Then they were never heard from again. As though they’d fallen off the face of the earth. She wanted to believe that Mike was different. Perhaps he was, perhaps he really didn’t find the note, just like he said.
Shouldshe give him the benefit of the doubt?
