Ash has been stuck as an apprentice dragonrider for most of his life. Since being nearly killed by a dragon, he’s terrified of them, but still wishes he could get over those feelings and be bonded with a dragon of his own.
Cote, sent by the most important person in a dragonrider’s world, Wingmaster Keland, is here to earn Ash’s trust and help him overcome his fear.
A friendship develops between the two men, despite occasional conflict. With Cote’s help, Ash makes the trip to Keland’s castle by dragonback. There, blue bonding stones are ground up and fed to a human and a dragon. They’re placed together in a pit, and they bond for life.
But why did Keland pick a dragon for Ash so much like the one that nearly killed him? And what does that choice have to do with the threat of the Northern Magicians—and Ash’s heritage?
Ash and Cote become close friends. But even this is called into question. Is their relationship friendship alone, or did their boss secretly bond them to each other for some nefarious reason? And what happens if Ash’s ties with both are cut?
