Twilight of the Gods (Spirits of Abaddon)

Author(s): Mychael Black

Book Summary

Time has run out for Jesse, Gabriel and Lazarus. With the rogue archdemon Hiil and his vast army marching for Abaddon from a neighboring world, Gabriel is forced to make a decision that may mean the death of one of his lovers. As an elemental, Lazarus once sought control of Ba'al's lands. Things have changed, but if Ba'al returns, the ice mage's word may not be enough to keep him from the archdemon's wrath.

Praise for Twilight of the Gods

"Jesse and Gabriel's willingness to stand up to protect their lover is great to see. I appreciated the love and caring between the men and thought this was a great addition to the series."

-- 4 Lips from Tangie, Two Lips Reviews

"Demons, mages, vampires, oh my! Throw in a ménage relationship, and things get interesting. I liked how the three lovers interacted with each other, you could just see the love and that they'd been together a while. I must admit, Jesse is my favorite as he's just too cute and funny!"

-- 4 Stars from Emily, The Romance Reviews

"The drama is taut and the danger is real for the trio who simply want to be left in peace to live and love. A satisfying drama neatly tied up with some hot and heavy sexual encounters..."

-- Lisa, Joyfully Reviewed

"What makes you think this will work?"

Gabriel sighed and sat back, kicking his feet up on the desk. The poor thing had taken quite a beating in the last fight when Hiil's scouting band had tried to ambush the keep. The battle had been hard won, and the keep hadn't weathered it too well. Gabriel knew he'd have to find another place for himself and his lovers. Speaking of which...

"It's our only option," he said, returning to the matter at hand.

Lazarus, perched on one corner of the desk, gazed at some point over Gabriel's shoulder. The mage, for all his power and arrogance, still held a touch of worry -- and rightly so. Lazarus had been one of Ba'al's most hated enemies before the archdemon had fallen. If the ritual succeeded, and Ba'al returned, Lazarus might very well be a dead man. Without Ba'al, though, they had no chance of defeating Hiil and the rogue archdemon's forces.

"Hey." Gabriel lowered his legs and tugged Lazarus down onto his lap. "I won't let anything happen to you."

"You can't promise that," Lazarus said. Blue eyes stared into Gabriel's, and he saw what Lazarus hid from others. Fear.

"No, but I swear that I will do anything and everything to protect you from Ba'al's retribution." Gabriel slipped a finger beneath Lazarus' chin and drew the mage in for a kiss. "I love you."

"I know," Lazarus murmured. "And even though I don't say it to you or Jesse often enough, I love you too. I'm not ready to die for mistakes I made in the past."

"You won't."

Someone cleared his throat just before Gabriel could get much more than a kiss. He peered around Lazarus' shoulder and smiled at their lover Jesse. The man looked like he'd rolled in a pile of soot.

"Um, I think you're needed." Gabriel laughed.

Lazarus twisted, one white eyebrow lifting. "I assume you finished your lesson on fire magic?"

Jesse's blue eyes narrowed into a scowl. "No. I just thought it'd be fun to play in the fireplace. What the hell is an ice mage doing with fire magic anyway? Aren't we supposed to be focusing on, well, ice? Water, at any rate?"

Gabriel watched the exchange and swallowed a chuckle. Ba'al's resurrection ritual hinged on Jesse and Lazarus not killing each other first. They loved one another dearly, but they were easily the most hard-headed men Gabriel had ever known. They argued more than Gabriel and Lazarus had ever done in the past, but there was no animosity to it. If anything, Gabriel had the distinct feeling they egged each other on just to get a reaction -- and make-up sex.

Lazarus wandered over. He looked Jesse up and down, then nodded. "The reason why you're learning fire is because every mage -- no matter his specialty -- needs to know the basics. Demons don't use magic like we do. Elemental magic is fatal for them. So never hesitate to use every ounce of knowledge and skill in your arsenal against them."

Jesse sighed. "I know. I guess I'm just... anxious."

"We all are," Lazarus muttered. He stood on his toes, given he was shorter by a few inches, and kissed Jesse softly. Arms slipping around Lazarus' waist, Jesse waited until the mage turned, then rested his chin on Lazarus' shoulder. Both of them stared at Gabriel as if he had all the answers. He knew they loathed the thought of risking Lazarus' life after bringing Ba'al back, but right now it was all they had.

"So how do we do this?" Jesse asked. "And how do we keep Lazarus from Ba'al?"
