I kissed my beautiful girl awake. She's the light of my life and the most precious thing I have. She graced me with a warm smile and held me close. I love her so much.

"Barf." Sarah stared at the update on her computer and gritted her teeth. Bile rose in her throat. Okay, so sappy wasn't bad, but please. Light of his life? Precious? Barf.

She rolled her eyes and closed the laptop screen. "Does Ansen call you the light of his life?"

"Huh?" Willow frowned, then sighed. "What are you reading? Strike that. What did you just read?"

"Nothing." Sarah placed her hand on the lid of the laptop. "I just wondered."

"Bullshit. You don't wonder about that kind of stuff. You hate anything sticky sweet and romantic." Willow grabbed Sarah's wrist. "Show me. And no, he's never called me the light of his life. I'm his babe." She stuck out her tongue. "What did you see?"

"I looked at a reader thread on the Beading Fans site." She hunkered down on her stool and folded her arms. "They've started a reader thread where you can post your beading fan fiction. I didn't even know there was such a thing until I read the thread. Some of it's pretty cool. Some is just strange, but whatever works, I guess."

Love wasn't really in the cards for her -- on a forum or not. The last guy she'd gone out with turned into her worst nightmare -- showing up at her house, calling her all the time and sending flowers on a daily basis. Not bad if they'd been together for a long time or had a shared friendship or something. No. She'd only been on one date with him.

Maybe he wasn't right for her, but there was another man she did want. She'd gone on a fantastic date with a great guy, but Mr. Fantastic turned out to be another dud. He got what he wanted and bailed like the rest of the guys in her past. Except she really liked him. More than she wanted to admit. Callum Donaughue wasn't like the other guys. With his sweet smile and gentle touch, he seemed to care. Seemed to listen. And how he kissed! Damn. She could almost feel his strong arms around her and the scratch of his day-old whiskers on her cheek. Her pussy quivered at the thought.

"You're thinking about Callum again, aren't you?" Willow plopped down on the other bar stool. "You're blushing and you haven't said a word. I'd love to tell you things will work out. He's a good guy. But he's busy. Ansen handed him a lot of responsibility when he decided to take a break to run the pack -- all three members of it, but still. I tried to tell him that maybe dialing back what Callum has to do would be good for the general population, but he won't listen to me."

Ah, yes. The pack. Everything revolved around the pack -- Ansen, Callum and someone named Krieg. The only person she'd seen shift was Ansen. Did Callum shift, too? Willow said he did, but if Sarah hadn't seen Ansen turn into a black wolf... she'd never have believed it.

"Hello? Earth to Sarah." Willow waved her hand in front of Sarah's face. "I'm not sure what to say right now. Him not calling was a shitty thing to do, but you've got to get out of this funk. So you read something syrupy on a blog. Big deal. Not all guys are assholes. I think you told me that. Now you've got to believe it."

Damn it. As usual, Willow was right. Sarah sighed. "Okay, so how do you suggest I get out of said funk? Retail therapy doesn't work. I'm not a shopper. I don't want chocolate, and I just bought a bunch of books at the used book sale, so I'm pretty well set."

"Sex toys."

Sarah sat back on the stool, too far back. Her ass slipped off the seat, and before she knew it, she landed with a thud on the carpet. She brushed her hair from her eyes. "You said sex toys, didn't you?"

"Yep." Willow grinned and offered her hand. "Come on. On your feet. We'll get you out of this funk one way or another."

"No."

"Too bad. I'm tired of listening to you mope, and I sure as hell don't want you hanging around with Ross. He's an asshole. If you can't get your mind off Callum, then a plastic lover is the next best thing. It won't talk back."

Damn it. "Okay, let's get those toys."

* * *

Callum folded his arms, then stared out the window. The Cleveland skyline glittered below them, and gulls swirled on the breeze. He rubbed his forehead and sighed. He'd been away for too long. Everything looked normal and completely different at the same time. Of all the things he missed, he wanted to see Sarah again. Everything about her had imprinted itself on his brain. He could almost smell the fresh scent of her shampoo and the silk of her skin. His wolf growled and paced. Memories of her weren't enough. She made his heart beat and his wolf calm, but the damned job had kept him away from her. He hadn't talked to her in so long, but he highly doubted she'd waited for him. A beautiful woman like her probably had men calling her every night. All he could do now was hope she'd still talk to him.

"Hey." Ansen's footsteps thumped on the plush carpet behind him. "I'm glad to see you're back in time."

Callum turned around and unfolded his arms, then shook hands with his best friend and cousin. "I'm glad to be back." Out of habit, he sniffed the air. He knew his cousin like the back of his hand, but he couldn't suppress the instinctual need to check his surroundings. His wolf settled.

"Looks like you picked up some great demos while you were away." Ansen slid his finger over the tablet, then sat down on his leather armchair. "Proud of you."

"Thanks," Callum mumbled.

"Can't wait to meet the bands." Ansen scooted the tablet away from him on his desk, then leaned back in his seat. "Are you okay? You look like you could rip out my throat."

"No, I'm -- I need to talk to you." He sank down in the leather chair across from the desk. "Things are complicated."

"You met another wolf and are afraid she won't fit into the pack? There's only the four of us, now that Krieg showed up."

"No." He frowned. "I meant with Sarah. How did you know Willow was your counterpart?"
