Men in Uniform

Author(s): M. Durango, Emily Moreton, Mychael Black, Rob Rosen

There's just something about a man in uniform, no matter what kind of uniform it happens to be. In "Best Laid Plans" by M. Durango, Craig gets a blast from the past when his new delivery man turns out to be his college boyfriend, Ryan. In "Seven Steps To Heaven" by Emily Moreton, stripper Steve finds that hooking up with a hot police officer is easy, but navigating what comes next, that's the challenge. In "UPSex" by Rob Rosen, Don loves a man in uniform, especially Ernie, his brown-clad UPS man with the ample empty space in the rear of his truck. Gunshots rip through an idyllic neighborhood and soon Rick and Gabriel are combing the mountains for a kidnapped child in a search that becomes much more, in "Crossfire" by Jon Keys.

Jonathan dreams of doing unspeakable things to the men in red uniforms at Windsor Castle, and in "The Queen's Guard" by Emma Jane, he gets his wish. In "Nurse Levi" by L.J.Hamlin, when a nurse patches up a fireman, will there be more than sparks? In "What Can Brown Do For You?" by Hunter Frost, a freak power outage traps IT geek Sean Barlow in the office elevator with the dreamy UPS guy, where he learns first-hand that you can't judge a UPS guy by the size of his package. Candymaker and mage Sam Burke desperately tries to avoid his ex-boyfriend, Bret in Mychael Black's "Midnight Magic." When Bret doesn't take the hint, in steps Officer Micah Holmes to save Sam from Bret's magical wrath.

"You have got to be kidding me."

Sam stared out his shop window at the workmen. Stores came and went downtown these days -- even other candy shops -- but they never lasted long. Burkeland's Treats had been the first, almost fifty years ago, and it had never left Burke family hands. Town residents here trusted their own, and despite the occasional candy store that sprang up and then capsized, Burkeland's still owned the candy market.

Why the hell an arrogant prick like Bret Fields would even think about coming back here, Sam had no idea. The fact, however, remained the same: the Burke family's biggest rival was setting up shop -- right across the damned street. A decade ago, Sam might not have cared, but Bret had fixed all that without batting an eye.

"If the lack of business doesn't kill him, I will," Sam muttered. The bell over the door jingled and Sam pulled away from the window and plastered on a smile. "Welcome to Burkeland's. Anything I can help you find?"

The group of older ladies all smiled and while the others looked around, one of them approached Sam. "Actually, I hope you can. A few years ago, a friend of mine sent me a box of chocolates and there was this decadent truffle in it. I haven't been able to find it anywhere else, and she said it came from here."

"Ahh..." Sam grinned and motioned toward the counter with the racks and plates of truffles and other chocolates under glass. "You must be referring to Burkeland's signature truffle, Midnight Magic."

"Yes! That's what the little paper in the box said. Do you have any?"

"Absolutely." Sam brought out the tray of dark chocolate truffles with the midnight blue stripes piped over the tops. "How many would you like?"

"Oh." The woman chewed her bottom lip and smiled up at him. "How about a dozen? No, wait! Two dozen. They're so good."

Sam laughed and nodded. "Two dozen of our finest, coming right up!"
