I like to thank you for taking the time out of your schedule to answer a few questions.
Oh, thank you. It is a thrill to be able to answer some of your questions, Karen.
How long did it take you to get your first book published?
Not too long. I had only waited for about a month and a half after my first submission to
be accepted. I will always be grateful to Steph at Extasy Books for allowing me a
chance to be published.
How did you feel the day your book was released?
Very excited. There is always a feeling of elation when you have a book released. Then
reality sinks in and you sit there wondering, “Will people like it?” or “Will anyone even buy
it?”
Can you tell us about those sexy vampires Alonso, Lucius, Lenardo, Raife?
Alonso, Lucius, Leonardo and Raife are a few of my Descendants of Darkness, a series
of short stories featuring vampires searching for their life-mates. It is a classic theme in
vampire romance, but I gave each story my own flavor. Each vampire finds his mate in
the city of New Orleans, and she is never ordinary—each have a special quality to
enhance the relationship—or cause friction along the way. For example, Lucius is the
demoni in ALONSO, but he is sad and lonely. Only a woman of equal power and
animalistic qualities could match his passion, thus, his mate turns out to be a werewolf.
LEONARDO is the next installment to the series (the third so far) and will be out in June
during the Amber Quill HEAT Wave. A slayer has come to New Orleans hunting for the
creature that slaughtered her family years ago. Then one night, she meets up with Leo
after her latest kill, and finds that raising her hand against the handsome, sexy vampire
is extremely difficult. How can she find a vampire, her enemy, so appealing? The story
is the darkest out of the installments to the series so far, but it is extremely charged.
Do you have a strict writing schedule?
Strict? Hardly. I do write to some degree each day. Some days I only write a few
sentences, others I write several pages. With two little kids, having a strict writing
schedule is difficult to do.
I mainly write in the mornings and evenings, though.
What are some of your hobbies?
I dabble in quite a few things like collecting actor autographed photos. (I have very rare
pictures signed by Jason Isaacs as Col. Tavington, Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy and Johnny
Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow.)
I do a lot of work with computer graphics and web design. It has become quite a hobby.
I have several sites I manage like the Descendants of Darkness site www.
descendantsofdarkness.com and my author sites www.mariannelacroix.com, www.
ravynblackwood.com, www.shayleeohara.com, and http://miriamvanveen.cjb.net. I also
manage the Moon Goddesses site as well, www.moongoddesses.com.
Have you ever had writers block?
There is not enough time in the day to get “writers block”. I work on several projects at
once, so there is always something to do. If I go get stuck on the direction of a particular
story, I will put it aside and work on something else. I have a backlog of stuff, so no time
to stall.
Are you working on any writing projects right now?
Right now I am finishing up RAIFE, MISTRESS OF MIDNIGHT, SEX STAT and
MASKED LOVER: THE LONE RANGER. Then I will be working on NOW THAT I
FOUND YOU, THE PRICE OF VICTORY, SPIRIT OF THE MOON and DAMON.
In between time, I work on my full length novel called EYE OF DIVINE VENGEANCE
which I hope to turn over to a mass market publisher later this year or early 2005. This is
a historical paranormal romance set during the time of Akhenaton and Tutankhamen.
