View Full Version : It's Jubilee Day!!

Gina Gordon
June 13th, 2010, 09:26 AM
It's a little too early for a Margarita so the firemen and I are enjoying a coffee with a little bit of kick.

It pays to be an early riser and in an early time zone than most of the other babes!! Don't be jealous ladies just because I have these men all to myself. Whatever will we do to pass the time until everyone else arrives??

I posted in the baking section about cupcakes. Anyone else enjoy the cupcakes?

Bursts into room and rushes over to one hunky fireman~ screeches to a halt and waves shyly. Hi Gina, can you spare one?

Tara S Nichols

I brought the disco ball.

Yay! Happy Jubilee day! :punk:

Since we're talking about our hobbies today, I've posted in motorcycle riding, fishing (watersports), and under blogs. I always think of myself as having lots of hobbies, but I'm not an expert in anything.:smartass: Our weather is finally starting to change from rain to cloudy days, with an odd day of sunshine. lol For me that means it is time to play tennis. I love this sport! When I can't get away and play on the courts in town, I have a badminton court set up at home and will challenge anyone to a game.

What about you guys, do you have yard games you enjoy? Horseshoes, croquet, frisbee?

Gina Gordon
June 13th, 2010, 10:57 AM
Yeah, yard games would be some form of exercise therefore Gina doesn't participate. LOL!!! Why do you think I am a writer? indoors + laptop + minimal movement= happy Gina.

June 13th, 2010, 10:57 AM
Good morning. I see you guys have cupcakes, margaritas, and disco balls...and my favorite, lots hunky firemen to kick off the party. Oooh, I don't think I can promise to be on my "bestest" behavior.

Tara S Nichols
June 13th, 2010, 10:59 AM
My dog likes frisbee, and she'd like it to be one of my hobbies. Thankfully my son has started to get interested so now I can kick back in a lawn chair with a G&T.

Chores are done! I've come to play. Oh good! I see Gina is entertaining the Firemen, she's even sharing this time. lol I've stocked the fridge with an endless supply of drinks and snacks.

Did you all hear about the huge grand prize we are giving to one lucky winner? Someone is going to have a lot of books to read this summer.

Tara S Nichols

You did remind me about canoeing though. I'm off to blog in the physical activities area.

Gina Gordon

*Gina clutches her chest in horror*

How dare you say I don't share. If there is anything that needs to be shared it is the naked, sweaty, buff body of a fireman. I would never deny my fellow female a chance for a look at that.

You are just jealous that I got to sample them all first! LOL!!

"oh, Luke" *Gina waves over her hard-bodied fireman slave for the day* "I'll take another hit of something naughty in my coffee."

lol It's summer time, so I hope you have that laptop outside sitting in the shade at least. We can give you the fly swatter, so you can occassionally move to swat the bees and mosquitos that pester you.

Speaking of mosquitos...one of those stupid things bit me on the knuckle last night and it is still driving me crazy. I think that is the worst spot to have a bite. *scratch scratch*

It feels like everyone around me has tattoos these days. I'm such a scaredy-cat.
My husband has three tattoos, on his arms. Even my mom and younger sister have them. I think for me it's the fear of not wanting that certain tat down the rode.

yeah, that makes perfect sense. It's rather permanent, even though you can have them removed, it's expensive, etc... but I think I've picked something I'll always like. An arm band, and not a colourful one either.

Hey Ladies,
Tara, where did you find that firemen pic or poster? My only hobby these days are reading, entering book contests and playing online. I watch others do physical sports. My kitchen isn't big enough to enjoy my cooking and baking hobby much to hubby's disappointment. But when the kitchen is 5' wide and only 7' long there is no counter space or breathing room to do anything. Hell I don't even have closets for storage or clothing. Enjoy your Jubilee day.

Robin, I'll let you in on a little secret. When all of us got together to try and figure out what hobbies to list, we all wanted to say writing and reading...that's all we do! lol But, because we thought that wouldn't qualify as a hobby we had to stretch far to find the other things we rarely have time to do because we are too busy dreaming up story plots and losing time inside the pages of a book. So, yes...reading is a hobby!

I forgot I was supposed to be here today! But then I checked my email and saw I had a hundred messages in my inbox and remembered I was supposed to come over. So *waves* I'm here!

My main hobby (besides reading and writing) is bellydancing. One day I hope to do it professionally. And I've got video's to share. They're from YouTube, so the clarity kinda sucks, but I picked the best ones I could find.

This video is of Sadie.

If you scroll down to the bottom if this blog you'll see a video of Rachel Brice, who does Tribal Fusion bellydance.

I just bought Rachel's newest instruction DVD. Going to go nuts waiting for it to get here. But I also got one from Sadie that came in the mail yesterday, so I'm hoping that keeps me distracted till it gets here.

HonoriaRavena
June 13th, 2010, 05:10 PM
It can be very hard, but mainly because I'm not terribly coordinated because I stopped practicing for a while, so I'm all over the place. But once you understand what you're doing, anyone can do it. It's a nice low impact exercise.

Lol, I think the hardest part is staying in basic bellydance posture because you have to keep your knees bent the entire time. Really works your thigh muscles.

Debra Kayn
June 13th, 2010, 05:10 PM
Yay! Honoria's here! I love bellydancing. It is so sexy and watching someone bellydance is like watching water move. (If that makes sense)

I once bought a cd, book, and the cymbal thingies that go on your fingers with the intent to learn. *shakes head* I really can't dance...not even normal dancing. I couldn't figure it all out, but I drove everyone around the house crazy with the cymbal thingies. Those are fun! lol Anyhoo, I'm envious. I think that is really neat. Want to make a Utube video of yourself bellydancing, so we can see it? :-)

I had a friend who tried to get me to go to pole dancing classes with her the other day to get fit. I said no way because I'm not fit enough. LOL

HonoriaRavena

Lol, yes that makes sense. I love watching it to. The first time I ever saw it was a Disney World when I was like six. Kinda been obsessed ever since. Never really dedicated myself the practicing though. I'll go back and forth. Lol, I'll probably stop again when school comes around, but I'm going to try not to, because it would be awesome to be one of those fabulous women that travels the world dancing. You add writing, and I'll have my life exactly how I want it.

Lol, I suggest you get a good DVD to learn (and I have some suggestions if you want to try and learn). I've tried learning from a book, but I'm a very visual person and the books just don't do it for me. Plus I tend to not practice enough of the movement if I just do the book.

I also plan to leave the finger cymbals out. At least for now. Once I get the moves down, and can actually do the dancing part, then I'll worry about the zills, if I ever choose to use them.

Lol, no thanks. I don't have a way to make a YouTube video, and I'm not that good yet.

That's another thing that looks fun to do, but I know I'd end up falling on my head or something. We need to come up with the "new" sexy thing...like, posing in front of the kitchen sink or walking the dog. Something that all women can do.

Lol, I'd actually like to take a pole dancing class. I have an exotic dance DVD that is pretty fun, but not as fun as bellydancing. Lol, I'm not in any great physical condition. I'm probably the worst I've ever been, which is why I'm working out everyday now. Have to do bellydance though, because I hate everything else, and if I don't do something I like I won't do anything at all.

lol That's exactly it! I actually learned how to do the hoolahoop a couple years ago. I had never been able to do it before and made it a goal to learn. Whew...talk about hard work. I can go forever now keeping it going, but like every other exercise I've learned, I've slacked off. *blushes*

The first vid of Sadie sold me to give belly dancing a try. I wish I could move my hips like that! Thanks for sharing.

I must admit I've been trying to lose weight just so I'm fitter and to get my blood pressure down because it's a little high. Once I get enough weight off, I'll probably give pole dancing a try because it does look like a lot of fun.

All ladies should try pole dancing at least once. It is so much fun. Of course some take classes to entertain their men and/or hubbies while some do it as an alt to exercise. Don't worry about the confidence part, this is the good part about pole dancing--you build confidence about yourself and your body.

The instructor who taught my pole dance class started when she was close to two hundred pounds. Now she's down to about 150. She says it took a little over a year to get that way without changing any other eating habits.

Debra - Lol, doesn't it though?

DVD wise, I suggest starting with this one: http://www.amazon.com/Contemporary-Bellydance-Yoga-Conditioning-Ariellah/dp/B000KZRP12/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1276464951&sr=8-1

It's the one I always begin with if I've been out of practice for a while. I advise doing one set of drills one day, and then the second the next, because each set is 40 minutes long. Plus she's got two yoga warm ups on it, so even if it turns out that you hate bellydance, you've still got the yoga on it you can do.

http://www.amazon.com/Tribal-Fusion-Isolations-Drills-Bellydance/dp/B000621452/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1276465193&sr=1-3 This one is also good, and it has that whole handy 15, 30, or 45 minute practice option.

http://www.amazon.com/Sadies-Complete-Bellydance-Guide-Sadie/dp/B001PBK6K2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1276465254&sr=1-1 I just got this one, but she's a good teacher. She's also more traditional. The other two are Tribal Fusion, so they're gothy and tattooed and I just don't know if any of you are into that. They're still good practice though, and the foundation of moves isn't much different.

Sounds like she did well losing the weight. I go walking every afternoon and am currently following the CSIRO diet which is actually quite good.

But I'd like to do something else besides walking. Maybe I should try running or the gym. Who knows.

I tried bellydancing once....so hard. I have much respect for you Honoria if you can move those hips from side to side. It sort of felt like my hips had to be autonomous from the rest of my body. LOL!!

Never tried pole dancing...too scared of what an idiot I would look like.
Lol, well the hips pretty much do have to move independently. Everything does. You have to isolate. It's hard to learn and takes a good deal of muscle control. You get it eventually though, with repetition.

I'm still in beginner stages, but in very first class instructor showed us pole dance routine. She is very flexible and girlfriend worked that pole like her life depended. Now I know why many men visit the strip clubs.

Anywho,
I also do Taebo once in a while, not as often as I should. Some of Carmen Electra's vids are also good for beginner level too.

Lol, I've never had sushi with chicken. I love the tempora rolls though. They have a green dragon roll with a giant slab of avocado on the top. And then they have a baked Louisiana roll with...I think its crawdad on top in the yummy sauce. Lol, need food I think. Maybe I'll get some rolls (the bread kind).

Well, do you put it in the soy sauce and wasabi? That's part of what makes it sooo good. Try anything with shrimp tempora in it.

I believe someone said it earlier. We all either work or are raising families or both plus we write, edit, proof, review and critique. I think for the most part those things are our hobbies, right? Because we love writing and reading (I forgot to say reading earlier) sooo much that we don't mind one bit the seventy - eighty - ninety hours a week we spend doing it. I love gardening, cooking and knitting, but I'll pick book stuff over them any day of the week.

Hey Robin, I did a google search for hot firemen and comments and I think it was from satisfaction (http://www.satisfaction.com).

I agree, we all love reading and would rather be writing when we're supposed to be cooking, cleaning, or exercising off our butts. (Although... I think I went down a size DiscoDancingCarrots yay!!)

And you're right, cooking in a small kitchen isn't much fun. I had an apartment that was like a hallway. The fridge door bumped the counter and couldn't open the whole way.

Hey Ladies,
Tara, where did you find that firemen pic or poster? My only hobby these days are reading, entering book contests and playing online. I watch others do physical sports. My kitchen isn't big enough to enjoy my cooking and baking hobby much to hubby's disappointment. But when the kitchen is 5' wide and only 7' long there is no counter space or breathing room to do anything. Hell I don't even have closets for storage or clothing. Enjoy your Jubilee day.

Robin

Lol yeah, my chest size is one of the many reasons I don't run. For me I have to wear a comfy bra with a sports bra over it if I want the boobs to stay still. Luckily I'm doing low impact stuff like yoga and bellydance, so I don't have to add the sports bra. Do need new comfy bras though.
