Hi and thanks for joining me today for my “spotlight” day. I look forward to chatting with you about irresistible heroes, my forthcoming novel or anything else you feel like talking about. As you can see from the above, I love history, archaeology, loud rock music and dogs, plus I’m an avid collector of all sorts of things – blue & white antique porcelain, Japanese fans and kimonos, 1st edition hardback books of my favourite authors and a whole host of other stuff which clutters up our house and drives my husband demented <vbg>

Anyone else have a mania for collecting things? And if so, what kind?
Please also enter my competition to win a copy of Trade Winds and/or read the excerpt. And feel free to stop by my website any time to check out my blog and see what I’ve been up to recently.

I just read the Trade Winds excerpt and I LOVED it!!! I have to know what happens next. As for collecting things, I don't really have anything that I collect. I would say at one point I had subscriptions to too many magazines and couldn't bring myself to throwing any of them away while they piled up. I am currently getting help for that (I swear I am not a hoarder of things) :) I have always thought Japanese fans and kimonos were beautiful, so you must have an amazing collection.

I'm thinking very hard here about what sort of hoarder I am - I know I must be one because, well, everyone I know is(!), and I think it's probably mugs. I don't have two mugs which are the same, and every time I go to a museum/tourist shop/church bazaar, I get another mug. My current favourite is a real China mug with the inscription from the Rosetta Stone on it. I also have a copy of the Rosetta Stone on my desk to rest my mug on.
Maybe I'm crazy....

That doesn't sound crazy to me at all! And if you want some more, I'm sure I've got a few around here :) Since I'm into blue/white china, I prefer mugs like that too, but sometimes there are others that just call out to you so you have to buy them. Hmm, I can feel another collection coming on, sigh ...

I collect cows, black and white cows, but not the real kind. I also love history and I guess it started when I was about nine. My dad used to tell the most fantastic stories about our family. I was so disappointed when I found out most of them weren't true.

That sounds like fun, Allison - I've just been to Scotland where they have the most amazing (real) cows with long shaggy fur! I wanted to bring some of those home :)
Are you into genealogy? I'm trying to research my family tree and I've found the same as you - all the stories I was told have turned out not to be true. But you can find all sorts of other things that are just as amazing, so it's a great hobby! Very time consuming though and a bit like doing a jigsaw puzzle with lots of bits missing. One day I'll find them all ... maybe.
