View Full Version : Putting together a fact sheet for each of your books

This is a great way to be prepared for marketing your books. I use several of these for different aspects of my writing, and have a fact sheet for each book. Each is different, because the needs for each is unique. A current book will likely have more info than an older book. But each has the following:

Tagline
Blurb
Link to purchase
Link to excerpt
An outstanding review snippet (or two)
Award nominations / links
Sequel or series info

How is this used? Many ways. I use at least one or more of mine every day. This has quick links for the book, the tag and blurb for contests or giveaways, chats, and responses to questions.

Here's a sample: [this is for Wulf] Remember, no one sees the document but me (except for today).

This document is a gathering place for the things I need most for promos for this specific book. Real depth info on reviews and so on is in my review request, which I can copy as a whole page and paste into email. This doc is meant to give me some short and long blurbs, placed next to links to make it easy for me to promo.

Think about the questions you are asked most about each book, or questions you want to answer - and put that info into this document, one per book.

I'll show you a cool little booklist that I put together tomorrow, and show you how to get readers to sign up for notice of your new releases.

Everytime I check this thread I end up with homework. *whine whine*. Okay, that's out of my system. :)

I actually don't mind since it'll help me later. I'm glad I'm finding out about this little project now while I only have one and half books to worry about. (I say half since it's only contracted and won't be out until 2008 March).

For all those--who haven't done this yet--with lots of books (way to go on having lots of books), my condolences on this new venture and have fun. Glad it's you and not me. ;P

Renee, oh shush!

LOL

Not that I have tons of books out there, but I do have more than one. I've only just started putting this kind of thing together. I have one book done, but not nearly as detailed and extensive as you've got here. I like how you have everything you might need all right there.

Yup, more homework. LOL

Hugs
Jude

Why does an author want to do a fact sheet?:errrr:

What an excellent question!

I use this little sheet every day for one book or another. It's the source for quick info when I am asked a question.

Tonight, I had an email asking if I'd offer a download for a contest. When I clicked the link to enter the info in a form, everything I needed was right at hand. ISBN, publishing links, excerpt, blurb, a review, etc. I was invited to share an author day with someone else recently, and she wanted to know what book I'd offer and some info about it. Ta da!

No hunting all over for anything.

When I find I am consistently asked for information about a book, I keep it in this file. I need to show everyone how to make a marketing menu over on the Word thread (http://www.coffeetimeromance.com/board/showthread.php?t=1569)so you have everything at your fingertips, too. Next to Find/Replace, that is my favorite Word feature.

Does this answer your question?

Actually I don't go in for the spanking thing. Had too many as a kid for me to see them as sexual now. But I'm more than willing to dole out some punishment. Fair warning though, safe words might not work--depends on my mood. ;P

You know for all the BDSM I see on the erotic romance market, you'd think RT would have a Dom party next year. Someone should suggest it to one of the publishers. Or do you think that would be too wild? I'd personally love an excuse to get a pair of hoe-boots and a whip. *wiggles eyebrows*

Know my safe word? FLAVA FLAAAAAAAAAAAVVVVEEE! Seriously, told my Dominant and she laughed.

I have one other I plan to use. Quote, buy print! hehe,

RT won't go for it. Too many people who are scared of admitting they like to have good hard sex for fear of losing their jobs. Thankfully, as a real estate investor and erotica/romance writer, I am my own boss!

Ah well, I can still buy the hoe-boots and whip. I'll just make them part of my cos-play. I plan to have kitty ears, kitty eyes (special contacts) and a tail. As soon as I get enough free cash, I'm raiding the Pyramid Collection--I love their dresses. Above all else, I want to be memorable. :) And since there are no fun Halloween parties in my neck of the woods, RT will be the only time I can really dress up. Don't know if I can pull it off everyday--probably have a kitty-in-jeans-and-a-t-shirt day or something.

Totally looking forward to RT and it's no where near April.

Pissed me off that I couldn't go this year. Had it set up with the coordinator that I could go and pay my fee later, but I couldn't get airfare.

How cute you'll be meow!
