View Full Version : "Parting Shot" coming to Amazon Shorts

July 27th, 2007, 06:12 PM
Amazon has accepted a SF/fantasy story of mine for their Amazon Shorts program.

The story involves an aging golfer--a former phenom, a hotshot who pretty much wasted his career partying. Now, on the downslope of his career, he has one last chance at redemption.

I know this doesn't sound much like SF&F, but trust me, it's there. The possible redemption is as a result of an extraordinary (supernatural, perhaps) event. There are no wizards or aliens or high-tech gizmos. It's a character study of a man and a golf tournament (the US Open). The story is told partly from the POV of the lead character and partly by the TV golf announcers.

I don't have an ETA yet, but it'll be sometime in the second half of August. I'll let you know when I have a firm date.

Congratulations Mark

Very good news, I look forward to reading it.

I'm working on submitting my own short, The Lake Effect, to Amazon as well. The sticky part is that I should technically be an author with a book for sale on Amazon and The Gender Divide isn't available yet. I'm waiting to see what will happen.

Thanks, David! Yep, that's the rule. I was able to jump the gun a bit because I still have a nonfiction book listed on Amazon from 1995. It's been out of print for a decade, but there are used copies listed, so technically it's still "for sale". 8^}
