View Full Version : Sell online?

Do you make/create anything and sell it online? How successful have you been?
My mom and I were thinking about taking her wood work projects and selling them on eBay for a start to see how they do on there. I also have a cousin who makes and sells purses and does pretty well with it.

I sell online using eBay my online shop can be found here: House Morbannaon (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/House-Morbannaon)
It's a little bare at the moment due to various arts and crafts fairs I go to however I usually have artwork for sale on it (you can find examples here: Gallery (http://www.lady-morbannaon.deviantart.com/gallery)).
Sometimes I sell lots other times I sell a little, however since I have a shop I can just place the pieces up on it and 'forget' about them being there. The best advice I guess would be to try it if it works great if it doesn't well you wont have lost loads.
I find it depends greatly on the time of year since over the summer most people don't want to sit at their computers looking for things in the heat. Whereas winter time is always good for gifts etc...
Make sure you have good pictures of the pieces you are selling and a lot of description (including some about the creator). Have a look around to see what other things are selling online and if there is anything similar to the product you will be placing online, that way you can gauge the market. Also if using eBay pick the catagory to place the piece in carefully.
I hope this helps but feel free to ask questions if you would like more information.

Thank you for all of that info. I have done very limited eBay selling (just some random things around the house) and it definitely makes sense that business would be busier in the winter. I never thought about it like that!
