I am Meredith Gentry, princess and heir apparent to the throne in the realm of faerie, onetime private investigator in the mortal world. To be crowned queen, I must first continue the royal bloodline and give birth to an heir of my own. If I fail, my aunt, Queen Andais, will be free to do what she most desires: install her twisted son, Cel, as monarch . . . and kill me.

My royal guards surround me, and my best loved–my Darkness and my Killing Frost–are always beside me, sworn to protect and make love to me. But still the threat grows greater. For despite all my carnal efforts, I remain childless, while the machinations of my sinister, sadistic Queen and her confederates remain tireless. So my bodyguards and I have slipped back into Los Angeles, hoping to outrun the gathering shadows of court intrigue. But even exile isn’t enough to escape the grasp of those with dark designs.

Now King Taranis, powerful and vainglorious ruler of faerie’s Seelie Court, has leveled accusations against my noble guards of a heinous crime–and has gone so far as to ask the mortal authorities to prosecute. If he succeeds, my men face extradition to faerie and the hideous penalties that await them there. But I know that Taranis’s charges are baseless, and I sense that his true target is me. He tried to kill me when I was a child. Now I fear his intentions are far more terrifying.

I've read A Lick of Frost recently and I cried so much. I'm not going to spoil it for anyone who hasn't read it but I don't think I'll be reading this book again for a while because I have to get over the first round of crying before I let a second round happen.

DavidsGirl841444
December 12th, 2007, 11:41 AM
Oh I am sorry you cried chica. Sad ending are great becuase they really touch us but crappy make people sad. But hey great for quitting smoking people. I mean I used to when I was in high school, but then I figured I don't want to die so quit really easy to do i guess peer pressure was horrible for me. But hey now even better.

Once I've finished reading all the books on my bookpile I will be reading the Anita Blake and Merry Gentry series again. I can't wait to re-read my Laurell K Hamilton books. LOL

I've just read the new Patricia Cornwell (Kay Scarpetta) novel and it was much better than her last two - Trace and Predator so hopefully she's getting back to her old writing and will be sending Kay back to being a Chief like she was in the beginning but there were a lot of changes that occurred in the The Book of the Dead and some of them weren't all good.

hollie
December 19th, 2007, 01:18 PM

Hollie I was going to skip this book after Predator was such a dud but I thought I would give it a go and it was great. I thought Trace was pretty good but Predator was a definite dud. I really enjoyed Book of the Dead though and I do recommend it if you've read the series up to date Bouncy Icon Smilie

I wasn't sure if I would like this series. It really took me awhile to shift gears and get into it. But by the time this installment came to my door, I was / am hooked. Any word on when the next will come out?

It was a REALLY good story line. The best so far, IMHO. :)

Anita Blake is an excellent series but the Merry Gentry series is great. She has a lot of guards to choose from when it comes to finding a father for her future children. LOL

Gaurds oh must read all the sex parts.

CharmedGirl

Gaurds oh must read all the sex parts.

Oh yeah she has almost twenty guards to choose from. Doyle, Frost, Rhy and Galen are the guards she has sex with in the first couple of books but then she gets to have more with other guards later on down the series.

Doyle, Frost and Rhys are my favourites among the guards! :notworthy:

But isn't she doing this to try to produce an heir, so that her aunt can't take over? That's the gist of what I get from reading the backs of the books.

DavidsGirl841444
January 31st, 2008, 11:33 AM

If there's a lot to get wrapped up before she ends the series, then there might be a couple of more books after the 7th, but who knows. She may find a way to wrap it all up in the new book. We won't know until it comes out or she decides to post on her site.
