View Full Version : My Saddest Poem

Not necessarily my best either. Alas.

Since this is the anniversary of my last wife's death I thought maybe I should share this with you all. It has a little history, too, that you should know.

You've probably all heard how I courted and wed my wife, Teri, through the internet and across the ocean, with poetry. Because of this when she died I felt I need to send her on with poetry too. This piece was written two days after her death, and I read it out over her coffin at the funeral service. Another friend sung, and all her friends wrote, sang or acted out their skills in her memory, for love of her.

This poem, like many things at that time, is a marker of shattered dreams. But she still lives on, in my heart.

Goodbye Teri

You're my world, my life and my best friend.
The glorious love that never ends.
You are the hope to make me strong
The haven where my heart belongs.

You are the kiss that steals my heart
The wandering path I'll never part.
You are the wish that steals my eye
A hearty hug, a warm goodbye.

You hold the keys to this life of mine
Pure moments full of romantic rhyme,
Whenever you are by my side.
My love for you will here abide

Forever in this golden hall
Of autumn flowers that ne'er pall.
I'll meet you there when night's curtain closes
Bringing gifts of scented roses

Framed with edges gilt with care
And promised love that I will share.
Wherever you should walk-or stray-
My love for you will always stay.

And so, my sweet, when life's day is done
And a new beginning begun.
Remember of my love for you
A promise that is always true.

Thank you. Memorial was nice, peeps were very nice and we all went back and partied for a while after.

Alas the half glass of champers and strange food kicked up the pancreas and put me out of action for two days, but hey you can't have everything.

But Here I Am.

Rejuvenated, alive and ready to bust bats to get back into the forum swing.

Glad you're back! No more drinking for awhile, so your pancreas doesn't act up again.

It's good to have you back posting SJ. It's just a shame that lately we haven't been posting at the same time. LOL

Wow, that poem brought tears to my eyes! Beautiful.

Thanks Jennifer. I don't think there were many dry eyes around at the time either.

Sometimes, things like this help us to remember the best of our loved ones. And why they were so special to us.
