"Honey, what are you doing?" asked Beth's mother asshe peeked into the bedroom.

The little girl turned from where she had been sittingon the floor—Indian-style—facing the wall. "I'm listening to the shadow man tell me fairy tales."

Her mother shook her head with a fond smile for Beth's vivid imagination. "Well, tell the shadow man that it's your bedtime. He can always tell more stories tomorrow." She left the room.

Beth picked herself up and made her way over to the opened doorway. She paused, glancing back at the dark shadow wavering amongst the Seven Dwarfs and Snow White in the mural on the wall.

"G'night, Shadow Man. See you tomorrow." Beth stood on tip-toes and clicked off the light. The shadow blended with the darkness.

The shadow detached itself from the room's darkness. Tall and black as a starless night, it listened to Beth's childish laughter and her mother's more adult version in the room down the brightly lit hallway.

A masculine sigh filled the air. "Good night, Beth Stuart. Grow up soon for me." The shadow ebbed, again merging with the darkness. The door closed quietly with a soft click.

Sounds really cool. Can't wait to read the rest of the story.
