Do you have a blog?

If you do, what is the address and tell us how you use the blog.

Do you have more than one blog?

Why should you have a blog?

If you don't have a blog, why don't you have one?

If you have a blog, would you like some additional promotion for the blog?

That's the name of my blog and I use it for a multitude of reasons, the most important being to keep my name in the minds of readers. I used to have a newsletter that went out to over 550 people each month, but it didn't offer the opportunity to interact and share my feelings on a more personal and daily basis. As a reader myself, I like knowing the author who writes the books I read, sharing knowledge of his or her personality and knowing that like they old adage, 'they put their pants on one leg at a time.' I can't get that knowledge about NY publishers, but small publishing has given me the advantage of making tons of new friends who are also authors. Besides friendship, I've benefited from their advice, compassion and caring. My blog is current hosting twenty-six authors in a blog fest, offering my friends a chance to promote their book to people who frequent or subscribe to my blog. You can join in the fun at http://mizging.blogspot.com

I see that you're interviewing others and/or letting other people do a guest post on your blog too. That's a good way to get new visitors :) We talked about setting up an RSS feed so your former newsletter subscribers could subscribe to your blog. Did that work?

As I mentioned in my introduction, I'm new to blogging. (new to websites too)...hey, I'm just plum new...LOL..

I think I need to get it figured out first before I actually try to interview anyone...I mean, if I only interview authors, then won't only authros come over? But I want readers, right?

I'm confused...

If you interview authors, the readers who want to learn about them can visit your blog. If you want to do this to build blog traffic - interview authors who appeal to the same readers that you want to attract. The more you get your name and information "out there" online, the better chance people have to find you.

Something else that you can try is to check the links posted here under "FREE Promotional Blogs" or something like that and fill out those interviews about parts of your book. Then when you return the interviews to me, include your website and blog link at the bottom of the interview. That will also build links back to your blog. Links to your site and blog will help you rank higher in the search engines.

There are MANY ways to promote your blog - just trying to share some of the easier ways with you. There are so many that I'm writing an entire book just about website and blog creation, promotion and optimization --- lots of info to share.

Thanks, Nikki. Yes, I'm on the "free promo" thread now looking it all over. You have some really nice blogs...How do you design them that way? All I've seen of Blogger is the templates that they give us. Not that I really mind what I currently have, I guess, since I'm a beginner. I just wondered how folks fixed them up so purty...:womancomputer:

When you open your blog, you should see "customize" at the top - most of the pretty stuff can be done from there. Was there anything particular that you liked? I also like to use different templates to add some variety - especially since there are so many :)

I checked. It didn't say "customize". It just said, "pick a template", and there's only about ten. Unless I'm overlooking something...which could very well be...

When you originally set up the blog there are a group of templates - some offer different color options. Then after the blog is set up, you can change the template and there seem to be some new ones there. Again, you can change some of the colors of a specific template to get another look.

You're in the wrong place to find what I'm talking about. When I go to my actual blog - there are several options in the top right corner and all 16 of my blogs are the same. In that corner - there is <table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td nowrap="nowrap" valign="middle" width="100%">
</td> <td class="navbar-right" align="right" nowrap="nowrap">l| New Post (http://www.blogger.com/post-create.g?blogID=3678865988388772349) | Customize (http://www.blogger.com/rearrange?blogID=3678865988388772349) | Sign Out (http://www.blogger.com/logout.g)</td></tr></tbody></table>

Customize takes you to the page where you can "add new page elements". That's where most of the options are located. The easiest thing is to play around and see what you find - just don't "save" unless you are sure you want to save whatever you have done :)

Hey Kelley

Thank you :) Invite friends to post guest posts or you can do interviews with other people. You can also be on my mailing list to possibly host authors for me too (hint hint).

If you find people who are anxious to get the word out, many times, they will promote your blog because you are featuring them. That's what I've done with my promo blogs and they are promoting by most of the people who submit info to them and quite a few people that I've never talk to. They like the ideas and the authors on the blogs want to show them to other people.

This works well if you can find a couple of topics that others will talk about and if they relate to your books that is even better :) Also, try to find people who appeal to the readers you want to bring to your blog to learn about you.

Do you have a blog? Yes!

If you do, what is the address and tell us how you use the blog. I have www.tarasnichols.blogspot.com as well as www.myspace.com/tarasnichols and I can be found at Bebo and Yahoo 360 too.

Do you have more than one blog? oops, yes.

Why should you have a blog? To talk to readers and network with other authors and publishers, to think through the writing process and sound ideas off the public.

If you don't have a blog, why don't you have one?

If you have a blog, would you like some additional promotion for the blog? I think so. It sounds good.

Great answers and very thorough :) More than one blog isn't a problem. I was just curious :) If you count my blogs, my promo blogs and all my social networking blogs, I have about 30, so I really can't say anything about having more than one :)

I have several blogs.

I do have a Blogger blog. But I've never entered anything in it beyond the first post. It was one of those 'good idea at the time' things I never followed up on.

I blogged at MySpace for a while. Not all that often. I've stopped blogging there as I don't think it has a very far reach.

The blog I do maintain is on my website, Romantic Heretic (http://www.romantic-heretic.com/My%20Web%20Page/Welcome.html). Biggest problem is I can't get comments to work.

I don't separate out my blogs. My life is of a piece and don't break it up into various bits.

I'm a little late posting, but better late than never. :)

I have a blog, Romance Writer Woes @ www.romancewriterwoes.blogspot.com (http://www.romancewriterwoes.blogspot.com)

I post anything to do with writing, and yes, I'd like some additional promotion for my blog.

I like your blog title :) I tell people to focus on things that pertain to their writing - if you are using your blog to attract readers. Some occasional info about your personal life is fine, but its such a great chance to talk about your writing, creating your books and characters etc. I deviate from that occasionally, but the posts are normally to promote my books or the books of my clients :)

I'm always looking for people to host touring authors for me, if you would be added to that mailing list let me know. That simply means that I will email the list when I need hosts and if the author, the book or the topic is something you would like to feature on your blog for a day - let me know. In return, I promote your blog in my tour annoucements :)

I have a blog, Writer's Blog (http://www.freewebs.com/kristinlawrence/writersblog.htm)

I need to take advantage of inviting other writers to guest blog and to do interviews. I haven't done so yet, but would like to get started. I do need help with additional promo. But, inspired by your seminar, Nikki, I did update my blog yesterday! You don't have to hit me on the head (too much! :TroutSlap:)

I have a personal blog for my family and friends, but that's separate and not linked to my writing world.

I blog to start a dialog with others who've read my work and have other common interests. It's networking in the best kind of way, I think.

Glad to hear it didn't take too many hits :) You could always include an RSS feed from your friends and family blog to your writing blog. On blogger - you can do that easily, once you have the RSS feed URL and it will display the last couple of post titles.

?Do you have a blog?
yes

?If you do, what is the address and tell us how you use the blog.
http://www.jennabayley-burke.blogspot.com/
Mainly to keep track of what is going on where - releases, interviews, events etc.

?Do you have more than one blog?
I have one personal blog, and am a member of several others like The Pink Heart Society (category authors), Romance Rules (epub authors), and publisher blogs (I Heart Presents, Samhain, Black Lyon, Phaze, Wild Rose Press)

?Why should you have a blog?
It provides more updated content than a static webpage...and you can be chatty.

?If you don't have a blog, why don't you have one?

?If you have a blog, would you like some additional promotion for the blog?
Maybe. I don't like to promote others books unless I've read them first or know the authors work well, and that is usually the trade...I'll scratch your back...

I have a blog that I created to learn how to net work, promote and to promote my deceased mother-in-law's writings. I've done a few blog tours for other Author's and post information about various groups and things that I'm learning. The only problem is, I do not think many people look at my blog. Maybe I have not learnt how to get my blog 'out there' !http://marjo-mumswritings.blogspot.com
