a.Does Promotion have to cost a lot?

No, not if you approach it in a realistic way. You know how much you can afford. Set a budge for yourself. Determine an amount that you feel comfortable spending. That can be as little as $0.00

Once you determine an amount, choose whatever advertising or promotion you want based on a projected rate of return.

There are tangible and intangible forms of promotion. Many of the intangible forms are free or nearly free (only costs your time)

b.Final Word of Advice

6 simple rules

i.Ask for what you want
ii.Stay visible
iii.Be politely persistent
iv.Know the 80/20 rule 80% of your results from 20% of your efforts. Spend 80% of your time pursuing the most profitable 20%
v.Know the rule of 7 people must hear about your 7 times before they are moved to act
vi.and Follow up!

I've really enjoyed this last month and I hope you have too. I also hope that I was able to give you some promotion advice that you can use for your own book releases now and in the future.

You've been a really great group!!

Thank you so much and thank you to Coffeetime Romance for having me here!!

Thank you so much for all the helpful information and tips, Vicki. I'm sorry I haven't participated more, but I've had horrific pc problems as well as being caught up in edits and galleys. I'll make notes though and try to absorb as much of all this fantastic knowledge as I can.

Thanks again, it's been fun and interesting.

Thank you, everyone, for your kind words. It was my pleasure to provide this workshop. I've learned a lot as well.

Thanks Vicki for all your suggestions. I learned a lot and will try to put it all to use.

Since I posted this in the wrong place before I'll post it here again.

Vista Print, is always offering free stuff. You have to pay for shipping, but in the grand scheme of things that's not to bad. Also if you choose certain features there might be a fee for those.

I was able to get
200-postcards with my cover art on one side and information about my release on the other
10- 2009 Magnet Calenders 3 x 5
25- business card size magnets with my cover
2- T-shirts with my website on them
250-business cards

All for under $50. The postcards have been a huge success. Everyone likes them better than the bookmarks. I've taken them to the library, bookstores, and resturants around my area.

I'm saving the 2009 calenders to for later in the year. I figure in a few months people will forget about the book and this will be a great way to remind them. Also, every month when I send out my bills, I include a card. I figure if they can send me a bill every month I'll send them a card. Also I find if you print you posters on glossy photo paper they get noticed a lot more.

Also at Vista, you have to watch for the sale but they also sell car door magnets. You can put your cover art on it with a catchy little phrase and your website.

I want to get one of these, I just need a catchy little phrase.

Any suggestions?

I also carry cards with me everywhere. If I overhear someone talking about a books, I'll introduce myself and give them a card. I have learned you can't be shy and promote yourself.

Ok I think I'm done. Have a safe and happy 4th everyone.
