Juliet was introduced to readers in A Night of NovelTea (http://www.thewildrosepress.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=137&products_id=473). In fact, the entire story is written in first person from her perspective. To get to know her a little bit better let me just quote her from the very first paragraph of the story. <o>
</o> <u1></u1>Another day bites the dust. Another monotonous week comes to a glorious end. As I stood in the fiction section of my family’s store, NovelTea Books, a bookstore/tea shop, I wondered if this was all my life would ever amount to. Here I was—twenty-nine year old Juliet Truesdale with a Masters degree in Literature—working my life away in this book store. <u1></u1><o>
</o> <u1></u1>Basically, Juliet finds her life boring and monotonous until a handsome stranger brings maybe a little too much excitement to her life. In this first story, Juliet is just reacting to everything happening around her and she has no idea what exactly is happening and no one will tell her. She is frustrated to say the least.<o>
</o> <u1></u1>As I created Juliet, I wanted her to be normal. Too many times in TV and the movies, we see women who should be totally unprepared for the tasks coming before them and yet they take it on like a trained pro. Juliet is strong but she has no problem relying on Grant, leaning on his shoulder and letting him take the lead. He is the professional after all. But she also will question things when the time calls for it. She is a smart cookie, ya know. She even finished graduate school. And when the time comes for her to shine she does find a way to rise to the occasion. As the series progresses, Juliet gains experience and skills until she really is prepared to deal with the unknown and the known dangers out there.<o>
</o> <u1></u1>I love this paragraph from Book #1. I literally laughed while writing this entire scene.<o>
</o> <u1></u1>This really couldn’t be happening to me. It was just my over-active imagination at work again after watching one too many episodes of those crime/drama shows. Darn those programs. But it wasn’t my imagination. This really was happening. I could just envision my tombstone in the cemetery. “Here lies Juliet Truesdale.” I was going to die…here in this alley. This is where I will breathe my last breath. This is where the police will find my body and my poor mother will have to come identify my remains. Oh good Lord, Mother! My eyes flew wide open.<o>
</o><o></o>
Here is a scene from NovelTea Next Door b/w Grant, Juliet and the mark of their investigation, Adam Trudeau. Of course this is all from Grant’s POV.<o>
</o> Adam Trudeau raised perturbed eyes over Juliet’s five foot seven frame to examine me as I came up to them. I slipped my hands into the pockets of my jeans and turned up my smile. “Hey, Jules, who’s this? Your boyfriend? You didn’t tell me.” I gave her a smirk while I took in her annoyed expression. Her brow wrinkled into a frown and she was just dying to say something to me but she held it back. I could just imagine what she was thinking—things like why had she ever agreed to this charade or, better yet, she was going to kill me for this later. <o>
</o> I curved my arm around her shoulders and situated her so that we both looked over at Trudeau. A disturbed expression was still on his angular face except it had joined together with a hint of pretension. He tried to smile at me but all he achieved was looking like he was superior—like those political highbrows I’ve had occasion to protect. They look at you like you’re a servant and then it’s like you don’t even exist.<o>
</o> With his stance as stiff and straight as a board, he held his hand out to me. “I’m Adam Trudeau, a friend of Juliet’s.” <o>
</o> I felt a slight shudder pass through Juliet at his words. It pleased me to know how much she hated this entire encounter. I squeezed her shoulder, trying to reassure her while at the same time enjoying the closeness myself. She didn’t pull back as I feared, in fact, she moved in to me a bit more. Maybe she felt a certain level of protection.<o>
</o> I gripped the offered hand in front of me, making sure to apply just a little more pressure than was necessary. Examining Trudeau’s face, I could tell he felt it as he wrinkled his nose just a fraction. “I’m Grant, Juliet’s brother.” I waited for it—the understanding of who I actually was moving into his face. <o>
</o> And there it was. His mouth remained static but his eyes grew ever so slowly into a slight glow and then back again to boring brown. Trudeau smiled a little more at ease. “Oh, your brother. That’s great.” He turned to Juliet now. “I didn’t know you had a brother. You never said a word.”<o>
</o> “Yes, sometimes it even slips my mind.” She stepped out from under my arm. “He’s here for his ten year class reunion.”<o>
</o> “Is that right?” Trudeau turned to me. “Where did you go?”<o>
</o> “Mayfair High,” I replied, sticking with the Legend script. According to his file, Trudeau had attended East High back in Nebraska fifteen years ago so there was no reason he would question me especially with Mayfair actually having their reunion next week.<o>
</o> He nodded his head at my answer. “<st1>Mayfair</st1>. Great. How long are you in town?”<o>
</o> “I’m not sure.” I glanced over at Juliet. “I guess as long as my sister will have me.” <o>
</o> There was a slight grimace in the smile reflected back at me. “Well, if you leave the bathroom in as disastrous a state as you do at Mom’s, I’ll be kicking you out soon.”<o>
</o> I wanted to hug her, she was playing the sister card to a tee. Or maybe she really was just ticked at me. Who cares. Trudeau was swallowing everything we fed him.<o>
