Hi,
Since becoming an atuhor, my time for hobbies has diminished completely. I learned to crochet about fifteen years ago. My friend taught me how to chain stitch, so armed with yarn and a needle I created "ginger" originals, which are basically chain, chain, chain, chain, double chain, turn, single, single, single, single, single, single, double, turn...keep going until you figure the thing is big enough and...voile...an instant Christmas gift.
Unfortunately, not knowing the different in yarns, I selected the cheapest which is rug yarn and the things weighed 400 pounds apiece. I must say, everyone of the fourteen people I gave them so tell me it's amazing how durable they are and that they are still around. Of course, I did spy one in the bottom of my sister's dog cage on my last visit. I don't think crocheting is for me. It's kind of like the gardening comments I made in that forum.

I read. A LOT! LOL.
I used to say writing is my hobby, but not anymore. It's a job, it's an adventure, it's a soul sucking plot to take over my life and force me into seclusion in this room at the back of beyond and *takes deep breath* I LOVE IT!
I also like to watch documentaries on tv, I can garden, but I am too lazy, I like to cook, and I used to make bead ornaments for the Christmas tree, but that hurt my hands too much.
Does eating count as a hobby? Or is that more a sport? Points to ponder.

hobbies ...hobbies...well that would mean I had time......(rolls eyes) I love to garden as many of you know! I am a vegetable garden enthusiast.

I play the piano and have for 30 years (yes, I said it) I do this to relax and because I enjoy it.

I knit, crochet, and cross stitch.

And Noooooooooooooo, I am not super woman. I make a resolution every year to learn something new! So every year I buy a book (such a hardship..snort) and teach myself how to do what I can with the book.

I love to read paranormal and historical romances and I also crochet. For those of you out there I have a pattern for an afghan called, "Kittens in A Row" and it is done in white, gray and black. If you would like the pattern let me know.

My biggest hobby is writing, then reading. When I have any time left, it is fishing, camping and going to the mountains. I use to mountain climb a lot but restrictions now limit me to do any of that.

When I am reading or writing, I do love to listen to the food network channel in the background or some old black and white movies or westerns.

:o ::) ;D :)

Nell, when we were stationed in Germany, we got to see some great castles and I loved every minute going inside them. Even the huge church buildings were awesome. Such a work of art! So detailed.

Karenne at least you were able to make one, I never could even attempt to try anything when it came to quilts. I always admired the way my grandmother and aunt had the ability to make beautiful quilts and each one different in each way.

My main hobby of late is Taekwondo. I'm currently a yellow belt but in two Saturdays, I'll be a camo belt.

My focus for the past couple years has been on health and weight loss. I lost 95 pounds with Weight Watchers a couple years ago. I've gained back a few so have to relose those. I also walk a lot and sometimes ride my bike. Occasionally I go rollerskating with my kids.

Lately, I've taken up gardening. Just a small garden. The morning glories are taking over. They're choking a lot of my trees and other flowers. I have to thin them out tonight after work (if the rain stops). My other hobby is ducking hurricanes. Right now, the outer bands of Tropical Storm Alberto are hitting us. I'm in Southeast Florida.

I also like to make my own webpage and I'm trying to learn graphics using PSP7. My daughters are the real graphic artists. The older one is taking graphic arts in college. The younger one is also quite talented however.

Other than that, I like to read and write (of course). I love to go to the movies, however, I need to put a hex on nachos and cheese.

I love to paint with watercolors. I took a class with Community Ed that ran six weeks. We got some of the basics, and I've been painting ever since. I have no real talent for art, and can't draw a straight line without a ruler - but painting takes away those challenges to stay within the lines! I think I spent six weeks learning how to make a wave curl and still keep the undertones in gold. It was a challenge! But also one I love!

Writing is my number one passion and quickly becoming a full time job much to my delight. I also own a leathercraft business which is not getting the proper attention it should lol I sew leather tops and hair wraps and sew all of my gifts for Christmas. I keep busy with my kids and love of my life. I have started knitting when I want to close my mind for a bit,... I know one stitch and have a pretty long scarf in the works lol I need to find someone to teach me how to end it when I am finished lol I kinda forgot I didn't know how when I started lol I wish there were more hours in the day......

I have two hobbies, but one is more a catharsis than anything.

I love to cook and it is like therapy for me. I run everyone out of the kitchen and when I am done purging the stresses of the day, everyone in my household gets to eat the fruits (and veggies and meats) of my labors.

My other hobby is making semi and precious stone jewelry. I am at the beginner stages, still learning new techniques when I have the time, but it's taught me a lot about patience, especially when dealing with gemstone chips and fine threads. It not only helps me unwind some days, but it's also given me stuff to give away for upcoming contests...*G* Now, if only I could ever rise to Susan's caliber with the sead beading...

I never knew how many hobbies I had until I started packing. (we are moving in a couple of months and if I start now, I'll have less of a rush later)

here is the list.

I knit and crochet (mostly afghans, cause I love them)
I latchhook
I READ
I paint by number (cause I stink at freehand)
I do styrofoam
I love to take pictures
I loom

I know there is more, but I haven't started packing those things yet.

sheesh, when do I have time to do anything else?

I used to have a lot of hobbies, but some of them have been stuck in the closet for awhile. Like my kites. I like to fly stunt kites. And I collect teddy bears. I have them everywhere. And I love to read. There are piles of books all over my house. My bookshelves are overflowing. I play World of Warcraft when I can find the time. And, can I count my dog and my bird? We created a bird forum (http://thebirdforums.com/forums/home.php?) when we got the bird so we maintain that. And, I created a blog (http://www.dogster.com/?420968) for my dog and I maintain that as well. Is chocolate a hobby?

I love to read and watch TV. Am totally addicted to reality TV. lol

I have 4 kids to chase after. lol

I like playing on the computer and use to crochet.

Things I wanted to get into, bought the stuff for and never did:
I wanted to learn to Tie-Dye
Scrapbooking
Painting (by numbers of course. lol)
Sewing. (Bought a nice machine and got it jammed up and its still sitting like that. )

I love writing and it is my passion, but when I want to have a fling I turn to crafting.
Needlepoint is the oldest, followed by cross-stitching, cake decorating, polymer clay sculpting, candle making, sewing, quilting, costume designing, jewelry making, beading, oil painting, wire work, chain mail, doll making, soap making (from scratch), soap making (melt and pour), home made lotions and butters, and doing henna tattoos at various sci-fi/fantasy events. And some more that I have forgotten.

Can you tell that I am a bit manic?

The fun thing is that as I collect more self-taught skills, I use them in my other crafts. (Wire work lead to chainmail, and I use wire in doll structures).
No skill is ever wasted. Try something out today.

Besides writing (which I have high hopes of making my career and not just my hobby), I also enjoy crocheting, cooking, I'm learning how to knit, and besides reading novels (and class-assigned texts), I enjoy reading graphic novels and comics. I also enjoy on line roleplaying games. Oh, and movies. I'm fast becoming a movie junkie. From foreign films and indies to classics and blockbusters, I thoroughly enjoy curling up with a bowl of popcorn and a flick.

I am also trying my hand at being the second coming of Martha Stewart. It really amazes me how a simply decorated basket of cookies or a present wrapped in a flour sack cloth instead of in paper can make a big impression. I don't know what that kind of crafting might be called, but I do love doing it, and most times it doesn't take much to make the ordinary extraordinary.

I did photography for years, even hoping to make it a career at one time. I even had my own dark room. Yes, that was in the days of cameras having film which had to be developed and then the negative used to make a print. For the creative concept of photography rather than snapshots I still prefer my Nikon film cameras to my digital cameras. I used to read a lot before I started writing. Now I don't seem to have enough time to read as much as I'd like.

I've never used a forum like this before, but I'm trying Karenne! Let's see if this works. :)

Hobbies? I used to sew, I used to do needlepoint. I don't garden anymore. Between writing and reading, I have these two grandsons that -- but I don't suppose they qualify as a hobby!

What I love to do is travel, and we do a lot of our traveling on the Harley. We've been all over the US and parts of Canada. Ever try to pack for two people for two weeks in a small duffle bag? LOL! Yes, we stop at laundromats!

Besids reading, I love to cross stitch! I have pictures of my work (what little of it there is) here http://community.webshots.com/user/elfbell (http://community.webshots.com/user/elfbell). I'm still working on a pink dragon that I started a year ago (sad, but true...I got aggrivated with it and put it aside for a while). I also crochet, knit, do tatting, photography, and try to draw (failing terribly...LOL).

Reading and writing is my favorite hobby, I make it a point to do these two things everyday. Aside from this though, I also used to make soap but I can't right now because I have a full time job then I used the remaining free time to write.
