These are just a few ideas of what we think you should include in your post asking for a critique partner. The more information you can include the more chance of meeting the perfect partner. So include things like: What length is your work? What genre are you writing? If your work fits more than one then say so paranormal romance for instance could also be m/m or have light bondage. How quickly you require it returned? Some people work quicker than others or have more time to give. Do you want to send a full manuscript or a few chapters at a time? This allows for a building of trust and confidence in both yourself and your partner. What sort of help do you require? someone to help ‘edit’ your work or just a sounding board, maybe something in the middle? What sort of partner do you want? Someone who writes the same genre as you or perhaps someone who enjoys reading your genre different people can offer you different experiences and expertise. How much experience do you have? A partner who works at a much higher level than you could become counter-productive regardless of how well meaning they are. And of course give a blurb of your WIP you’ll have to write one eventually you might as well do it now.

We hope that in this area people will discuss their work. Help each other with problems. Do you have a paragraph that just will not say what you want it to say? Or are you having problems getting your characters to develop the way you want them to? Ask for help, with all the experts we have here at Coffee Time Romance we are sure someone will be able to guide you. But first a few guidelines: Please be nice. Something may seem simple and obvious to you but may not be to the person asking for help. Be positive. Everyone has to start somewhere and remember not everything will be your cup of Tea … oops Coffee. If you have nothing nice to say keep your fingers away from your keyboard. Remember some people will not like your work either. Criticism is good but only to a point. Please do not totally shred somebody’s work even if you think it is totally needed. Think how you would feel if someone did that to your work after you spent hours putting it together. And above all be polite. You can say anything politely. Sometimes it will be necessary to tell people there WIP needs work but be polite and positive some people have great ideas and need help learning how to get them across Don’t forget to say thank you. If someone spends time thinking about your problem and advising you than a thank you makes it worthwhile.
