Why have cell phones become so important to people? The last thing I want to be is to be available to people 24/7. Yes, I do own a cell phone, but I use it for emergencies only. I guess some people would call me a bit old-fashioned, but cell phones seem to make people more stressed than ever before.
Cell Phone comments
I soooooooooooooo agree with you on that one. I do have a cell phone. I only use it for emergencies. My kids have it with them when they are at events and I either am not there or not able to be there. That way if something happens and I need to find them or they need me right away, they have a way to keep in touch.
Shoot anymore...when the phone rings at home...I just cringe! I don't want to answer it. It just means more work for me. Yes, I am lazy!:GEEK:
I can fully understand wanting a child to have a phone for emergencies. But I watch sixth graders flip open their phone the minute that are off school grounds. On of my class assistant, 8th grader) said that she would do between 30-50 text messages a night. Where are their parents getting the money for this phone?
snicker...awww...this is where my cheapness...err..brilliance comes in. I turned that feature off! (throws head back and laughs like a maniac)
My Cell Is My Lifeline
For me I have to rent a place and my cell is my communication to the world and friends and family other than online.... if I did not have the phone I am literally lost.
In fact I have lost it a few times and had to go without for a bit and that was hell I had no phone to call anyone to ask them to call my cell and see if anyone picked it up and where from. I had to email and wait and wait since there is no guarantee email will get answered immediately.
So there are 2 sides, I am single, and live with a couple of college roommates now... they moved in a little while ago so in and out and I have their #s on my cell in fact everything and everyone important it on there.
So yep for those that have regular phones is one thing but for those without a landline per se a cell phone is a Godsend and a lifeline and yes I have used it in our condo complex to call the cops too since sometimes this place late night and early morning people get in trouble or cause it so a cell is invaluable there too with the GPS on 911... a poor barely 13 yr old was attacked walking home with a friend by a couple of older 17/18 teens out drunk and whatnot. So yep a cell can be good as an adult. Though my 13 yr old niece has hers with all the functions and she shows it off so I hope I do not get many texts I do not like those that much but I do prefer just a call saying hi or a picture of whoever especially from my oldest niece showing her 3 kids including the littlest standing up on his own haha..
RAISES hand I am a slave well sort of to the cell I just keep it close just in case and charged but I do not use it that much actually it is just a comfort to be ABLE TO WHENEVER or have whoever needs me call.
Thanks for letting me ramble.
