Reading Was And Always Will Be Big For Me
IN OUR FAMILY WE HAVE ALWAYS READ and make sure the kids, grandkids and probably the great grandkids will be readers too. Television and videos and video games tend to rule and be the babysitters for more and more parents and even day care and babysitters.
Growing up I always read we all did. So I know we always could go to bed and STAY UP LATER but only if we read in bed before going to sleep. We tried to instill that in the next generation of kids too in the family and I hope their kids that are still little and so far get read to will be reading soon enough the oldest of my niece's kids will be in Kindegarden this year so he will be ready I am sure he loves books and so does his not quite 3 yr old sister.
Anyway reading to your kids is the best thing to do when they are little and making sure they read at least a certain amount of time a day too. Though most schools assign between 20 minutes to an hour a night for the kids to read and the parents to check off each day on a chart for the week. Wonders how many parents don't make their kids do it and just sign it off.
Anyway that is my soapbox too books will last forever shows and games won't anything electronic eventually dies out you need power ... a book you can open and read ... no batteries needed...
Yes I bet more want to read books for the movies out
Well it makes sense that kids are interested in wanting to read a series or a book because of a movie or tv show out and I want to see Eragon it looks good so I am happy that maybe movies can help children want to read a bit more even if it is specific books. That is great... getting a child interested to want to read and enjoy it once they do you hope they are hooked for life.
children and books go together
I just love seeing kids read or be read to and even more fun is when they have it memorized so one of two things happen. As you read you forget something and they correct you or if you make them read it to you they can do it word for word and turn the correct pages even though they cannot actually read yet they have it all in their heads and their memories can be very powerful... that is why books and reading are so important to kids. They love to learn heck I love to learn and read and I am now OLD haha....
