Yesterday was our forty-seventh wedding anniversary and we spent it quietly in the midst of the chaos that rules our lives at present, just the two of us, eating steaks from the barbecue and sharing a bottle of wine. There were the usual congratulatory calls and cards, but they didn't impinge on our shared memories of an often tumultuous life.
It's been good, we are very lucky, and each gives the other more credit than they claim.
Other anniversaries will come (we are both in good health) and we will greet them with equal satisfaction, but yesterday was good.
