One of the traps of writing historical fiction is anachronisms, things shifted out of their time, and a final check of my current WIP has revealed a glaring one, a Bahamian town named after a man not born at the time of the tale.
My only excuse is that I was relying on a conversation with a local reserve ranger, a man in his nineties at the time and it seems his memory, or mine, is at fault.
The moral of the story is check, and then double check!
