I really shouldn't be posting in the gardening section because I can't even grow rhubarb! It's true, around me, raspberry bushes (which normally take root and then take over) wither and die. Why? Because I don't pay them the attention they need. I have quack grass, brome grass, rabbits and deer and I'd need an army just to keep those invasive plant predators away. What do I do? I grow things in pots. Yup, I live on twenty acres and my gardening style is much like those who squeeze a garden on top of a sky scraper. Every time I stick a shovel into the ground and turn over a plot, I feel like I will be able to keep up with it, but in no time, I'm out numbered.
I have no idea how those pioneers ever did it.
Part of my plan to win this battle is to let most of my yard go wild. I have a lovely meadow of wild flowers, some natural trees for this area, such as hazelnut and hawthorn which bloom beautifully, and of course only attempt a very small vegetable garden in the first place. I've tried fencing off a plot, as well as a scare crow and whirilgigs but those animals are hungry!
