Benton Chaser was the black beaver of his clan. Seeing the pain and suffering his father experienced when his mother was killed. He refused to accept the laws of the clan and find his one true mate. Preferring exiles to the pain he knew was in store if he gave in and the revenge he got seducing the wives of the men who ripped his family apart.
Until he met a feisty Widow name River Maples, who gave the wild animal on her property sanctuary and greeted all men with the barrel of her shot gun. He’d tried everything he could think of to approach her and could only succeed in his were-beaver form. Yet he can’t deny the pull he feels towards her, could she be the one thing he’d been running away from for the past hundred years?
Excerpts # 2
His arrogance turned to sorrow. Could her quick dismissal of him have caused him pain? She’d been about to dismiss it and him when the shyest of her little friends, a young beaver, came scurrying out of the forest and jumped straight into Benton’s arms for protection. The poor thing was shaking like a leaf, obviously scared to death of something in the woods behind them.
River didn’t stop to think. She rushed straight into the water, uncaring of her dress, and took the shivering creature from
into her arms. Teeny was the baby of her refugees, and the second most precious to her. She stroked his pelt soothingly to calm him enough so that she could focus on the problem his agitated state represented. Someone is poaching on my lands again. Benton
The fact that Teeny ran straight into
’s arms instead of hers made her re-evaluate this strange man. She glanced over to judge his and found him standing in a defensive posture, facing the woods Teeny had just come running from. Benton
“Shhh Teeny, everything is okay now. No one will hurt you here, not while I’m still alive!” River sneered in disgust when she spotted the man who had chased Teeny from the woods. “William, get your offending presence off my property before I…”
William laughed at her threat and narrowed his eyes at her. “You’ll what? River darling, your shotgun is over on the water bank. Your dress is unbuttoned and your arms are full of high-priced pelt. I’d say you have nothing to threaten me with at the moment, unless you’re finally ready to become my mistress? Then I’d be willing to negotiate.”
River shivered at the look in his eyes. The man had gone completely mad.
