Danni tried to gain her senses, quiet the hornets’ nest buzzing inside her head.
One minute she was standing on a cliff edge, the next laying on the carpet, attuned to the hard floor under her body as she came to terms with what just happened. She experienced Sara's thoughts and emotions. Possession? Insane.
Pain beat against her bruised skull. Her face felt weird, like she wore a thick mask made from thousands of pins and needles. Logic balked and she determined it was futile to search for a reasonable explanation in an illogical situation. Right now, her emotions and intuition were most important. That fact alone was bizarre.
She forced her bruised lids open. Shudders rolled through her body, reminding her of her weakness. She braced her weight on her forearms, winced as her elbows pressed the floor. Saliva pooled in her mouth as she fought the nausea.
Push the pain and sickness to the back of your mind and get off the floor. Call the police and make sure the assailant isn’t in the house.
A crash rumbled down the hallway from her bedroom.
