Hi! My name is Kim Wollenburg, and I write paranormal romance with kick-assitude as Cassiel Knight. I currently write for Samhain, Lyrical Press and Champagne Books. And since I’m a huge fan of eTreasures, I’m sure, at some point, I’ll have something for them too. I’ve been writing since 1997 but didn’t really get serious about treating writing as my career and a business until 2003. Then, in 2007, I sold my first book to New Concepts Publishing. While that didn’t work out, through no one’s fault, it taught me a lot about epublishing. And despite the niggling idea that I’d still love to land at least one New York contract before I die, I love digital and small press publishers.

I’m here today to talk about the industry as a business and what that means for you, the author, or aspiring author. Things you should, and need to consider, especially if you intend to make or are making writing your business/profession.

One of the biggest things that usually come up in these discussions is taxes which are important considerations in the determination of business versus hobby. Other than an overview, I won’t be touching on taxes because you have a chance to hear from some experts so make sure and come back this week.

Before I get started, anyone have any initial questions or comments about what they’d like to talk about?
