There is magick in music, in lyrics twined with harmony and melody, in the pulse of a drum and the breeze or brass of a voice.
I love all kinds of music from classical to electronica, from bluegrass to opera - I have sampled it all, but there is no doubt I have my favorites.
On my website, in the Arcade, I have a section dedicated to music, and there you will find reviews and links. Currently, I have a review up for "Wounded Heart of America - The Songs of Tom Russell".
I truly love lyrical song, but as much as I do, I can't listen to such great songwriters while I write! I end up listening and singing along (we won't mention how off key, or how the cat howls...) and not writing!
So, when I write, I listen to classical, but I also listen to instrumental works (a lot of celtic and new wave) and movie soundtracks. Some of my favorite soundtracks are, "Lord of the Rings" and "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World". On Master and Commander, the cello solos by Yo-Yo Ma are just wonderful.
What do you listen to - if anything - while you write or read?
