    Smile Dishin' It Out

That's the name of my blog and I use it for a multitude of reasons, the most important being to keep my name in the minds of readers. I used to have a newsletter that went out to over 550 people each month, but it didn't offer the opportunity to interact and share my feelings on a more personal and daily basis. As a reader myself, I like knowing the author who writes the books I read, sharing knowledge of his or her personality and knowing that like they old adage, 'they put their pants on one leg at a time.' I can't get that knowledge about NY publishers, but small publishing has given me the advantage of making tons of new friends who are also authors. Besides friendship, I've benefited from their advice, compassion and caring. My blog is current hosting twenty-six authors in a blog fest, offering my friends a chance to promote their book to people who frequent or subscribe to my blog. You can join in the fun at http://mizging.blogspot.com

I see that you're interviewing others and/or letting other people do a guest post on your blog too. That's a good way to get new visitors We talked about setting up an RSS feed so your former newsletter subscribers could subscribe to your blog. Did that work?

As I mentioned in my introduction, I'm new to blogging. (new to websites too)...hey, I'm just plum new...LOL..

I think I need to get it figured out first before I actually try to interview anyone...I mean, if I only interview authors, then won't only authros come over? But I want readers, right?

    I'm confused...

If you interview authors, the readers who want to learn about them can visit your blog. If you want to do this to build blog traffic - interview authors who appeal to the same readers that you want to attract. The more you get your name and information "out there" online, the better chance people have to find you.

Something else that you can try is to check the links posted here under "FREE Promotional Blogs" or something like that and fill out those interviews about parts of your book. Then when you return the interviews to me, include your website and blog link at the bottom of the interview. That will also build links back to your blog. Links to your site and blog will help you rank higher in the search engines.

There are MANY ways to promote your blog - just trying to share some of the easier ways with you. There are so many that I'm writing an entire book just about website and blog creation, promotion and optimization --- lots of info to share.

Thanks, Nikki. Yes, I'm on the "free promo" thread now looking it all over. You have some really nice blogs...How do you design them that way? All I've seen of Blogger is the templates that they give us. Not that I really mind what I currently have, I guess, since I'm a beginner. I just wondered how folks fixed them up so purty...

These are my blogs. I also have an amazon connect blog. I think the best one is myspace. I admit that I get behind in posting on my blogs and I could do more to make some get more traffic. Most of my problem is finding the time to post. Any suggestions? You always have great promotion advice.

    Hey Kelley

Thank you Invite friends to post guest posts or you can do interviews with other people. You can also be on my mailing list to possibly host authors for me too (hint hint).

If you find people who are anxious to get the word out, many times, they will promote your blog because you are featuring them. That's what I've done with my promo blogs and they are promoting by most of the people who submit info to them and quite a few people that I've never talk to. They like the ideas and the authors on the blogs want to show them to other people.

This works well if you can find a couple of topics that others will talk about and if they relate to your books that is even better Also, try to find people who appeal to the readers you want to bring to your blog to learn about you.

Do you have a blog? Yes!

If you do, what is the address and tell us how you use the blog. I have www.tarasnichols.blogspot.com as well as www.myspace.com/tarasnichols and I can be found at Bebo and Yahoo 360 too.

Do you have more than one blog? oops, yes.

Why should you have a blog? To talk to readers and network with other authors and publishers, to think through the writing process and sound ideas off the public.

If you don't have a blog, why don't you have one?

If you have a blog, would you like some additional promotion for the blog? I think so. It sounds good.
