    Default Subscribing Readers...

Okay, what is this deal about RSS feeds? How do they work and what function do they give? Are they a good idea?

Novice here, as you can tell...

An RSS feed makes it possible for people to subscribe to your blog - that way they don't have to remember to visit you It also makes it possible to link your blog to Amazon which is a great way to communicate with people who visit your sales pages.

    www.feeedburner.com
    www.feedblitz.com

These are two well known RSS services. Actually they are very easy to set up. Register on the site to create a file and then you enter the URL for your blog. The site creates the RSS "feed" - that is a link that you need to save. Then any time you are somewhere that lets you add an RSS feed - you can enter that link.

For example, with the Amazon feed - you post on your blog and then several times a day, Amazon will check your blog for new posts and they will post your blog entries onto your AMazon blog. It is a way to distribute your blog to other sites without the work

When you put a "subscribe" link on your blog, or your website, people can click the link to subscribe to your blog. Either the post or a notice of a new post will be sent to each subscriber when you post new information.

Each of the sites I listed above offer options to promote your blog and to circulate the word about your blog.

Well, fudge. I ain't gonna be on Amazon. My book length was about 3,000 words shy of going to print. I'll always be an ebook...*sob, weep, cry*...

All this is overwhelming, but I'm sure gonna look into all this.

    Thanks, Nikki!

You might want to add another chapter or two in the future - and then it could be print. But, Amazon has the Kindle unit now and all my ebooks are listed there for sale

Feedblitz says it's free with ad support. Do they put ads on the blogs? And the first one took me to a page where I was lost...LOL..

I don't have an account on Feedblitz, I use feedburner. If I was you, I would go to the top of the page and click on "My Account" - that links to everything you need and My Dashboard is the place to start.

What I do with any of this stuff is to look around the site to see what is there and what's available. That is a really good way to find a lot of great possibilities and it will take you a little time to find your way around. SOmewhere it should give you a box to enter your blog address -- to "burn".

Once you have the feed link - click on "plan" at the top of the page and I bet you the info you need is under Blogger widget. That will give you the info to add to your blog.

Feedblitz didn't have a "burn" place and I couldn't see a register with Feedburn. Is that Feeed with 3 e's, or Feed with 2 e's? Even with both, I couldn't see a "register" page. I'm not trying to be dense, Nikki. These things are just slipping by my tired eyes, I think...(Yeah, that's what I'll blame it on...LOL..)

    Feedburner.com --- 2 e's.

When you go to the link - there is a block in the middle of the page that says - start feedburning now - enter your blog URL there and click next. At the top of the page (that's a common place to find this stuff) you will see "log in" or "register". You need to register is you don't already have an account.

Is there any wonder why I'm writing a very comprehensive book about blogging and websites?
