This is what I'm working on right now:
Gorgeous, naked male filled her vision as Selena walked into the bedroom. Liquid heat pooled in her belly and traveled lower as she remembered what it felt like to have that muscular body pressed against hers.
Zach leaned against the doorframe and looked out over the busy city. Since he hadn’t noticed her yet, she took a minute to compose herself. When Timothy had asked her for a personal favor, she’d never suspected he meant babysitting his nephew- the man she’d loved and lost two years ago.
Timothy wasn’t very forthcoming with information, and no one would talk about the mission or what had happened to Zach. Whatever it was, it was bad. She’d never have been able to get this close to him unobserved in the past.
Something had changed him, and she suspected the crisscrossing scars on his back had a lot to do with it.
Torture was a reality for many captured agents. She’d been through it once, and lived to tell the tale. Apparently Zach had too. But where she’d survived whole, he had amnesia. A whole chunk of his life gone. Before she realized what she was doing, she sent a soft breath of warm air across the room to caress his scars. Without warning, Zach spun around, his blue eyes wild and unfocused.
Damn. I thought I had better control than this. It was too late to chastise herself for her lack of control. She needed to take charge of herself and stop making stupid mistakes.
Instincts screamed for her to draw her weapon, but instead she slowly raised her arms, palms out, hoping he wasn’t as crazy as the rumors claimed.
“Agent Selena Carson. Mr. Fullerton sent me here to assist you.”
“Baby-sit me, you mean.” His voice was harsh and rusty as he turned back to the balcony.
Memory or not, he was a fool to turn his back on a stranger. Even though they’d been intimate on more than one occasion, he didn’t remember her, let alone all the hot and heavy nights they’d shared. At least she’d thought they shared them, but he’d been playing her for a fool and dumped her when someone better had come along.
She needed to stay focused on business. “Until you can regain your memory, and even then, your life is in danger. The agency wants you protected at all costs, and it’s doubtful you can take care of yourself.”
Just like she planned, he turned around, eyes blazing with anger as he advanced toward her. Instead of retreating she stiffened her back and straightened to her full height of five feet five inches.
Zach didn’t stop until his toes bumped against her government issued boots and his broad chest was mere inches from her face. A very nice naked chest. One she’d raked her fingers across on several occasions. She swallowed past a suddenly dry throat as his masculine scent filled her with a sense of homecoming and burning desire. Damn Timothy for sending her here. And double damn her for still wanting the bastard.
His glance moved over her, lingering on her breasts before he looked into her eyes. “Why would Tim send someone like you to guard me? A strong wind would knock you over.”
She flinched, pain searing her at his harsh words. The gleam of satisfaction in his eyes made her want to strike back at him, but she didn’t. He couldn’t know the depth of the wound he’d just inflicted on her. Zach didn’t remember that she could manipulate the very air around them. He might never remember.
The doctors guessed he’d had his amnesia for about six months. They weren’t positive because he’d gone missing sometime around Christmas and hadn’t been found until Valentine’s Day, when he’d been discovered wandering through the jungle in bare feet, mumbling incoherently, deep in the heart of Brazil. It was now July, and he still didn’t remember anything before waking up in the hospital in Philadelphia.
“Tell me, how exactly do you plan to guard me?” He leaned down until he was face to face with her. “My last two guards met with a very unpleasant fate.”
“Since wolves are very rarely seen in the city, I doubt fate had anything to do with it,” she snapped. As soon as the words left her mouth she groaned and ducked her head. She couldn’t think let alone guard her mouth with him so close, and so naked.
Looking down had been a big mistake. One she realized when she saw his erection. He was as turned on as she was. He doesn’t remember you. He’s just aroused from the danger, or from the challenge of a new conquest. There was no way he could be genuinely interested in her. No, she’d been down that road and had the scars to prove it.
Some rumors said Zach had lived like a monk ever since he’d returned. For some reason this bothered Timothy, and he’d sent female agent after female agent to his nephew before resorting to call girls. According to everyone, Zach had refused all advances. A few people had suggested he wasn’t capable of physically loving any one any more. Poetic justice for the man who’d wooed and won half the females on staff.
“You’re trembling.” He cupped her chin and lifted her face back up. He stared into her eyes, searching for something. What, she didn’t know. Then he smirked and stepped even closer, his hard shaft pressing against her stomach.
“What?” She refused to back away. He’d never hurt her, at least not physically.
“You’re trembling because of me. Not out of fear, but because you desire me.”
Her first reaction was to belt him, but she restrained herself. Barely. “And you think this because…”
“Because your nipples are hard under that T-shirt,” he said as he lowered his hand and cupped her breasts, rubbing his thumbs over her pebbled nipples.
Selena bit back a moan even as her back arched under the caresses. “I’m just cold.” Damn her breathless voice.
“I’d be more than willing to warm you,” he whispered as he leaned down and captured her lips with his.
Without a second thought, she surrendered to the desire, wrapping her arms around his neck as she leaned into his body. He continued to tease one nipple with his hand and grabbed her ass with the other, tugging her against him.
When she sighed he thrust his tongue between her lips, and deepened the kiss. Selena moaned as she lowered her arms, and dug her fingers into his ass.
Suddenly he pulled away, pushing her from him as he stepped back. “Who are you really?” he rasped, chest heaving as he drew in harsh gasps of air.
She was pleased at his body’s reaction and how it mirrored her own, but his mind rebelled against his body and that wasn’t necessarily a good thing.
“Agent Selena Carson. Timothy sent me--”
“Ah ha! You used his first name.” Zach grabbed her shoulders and yanked her close as he shook her. “Tell me what you know. Who did this to me? Why won’t anyone tell me anything? Who are you and why the hell does my body react this way to you when it hasn’t to anyone else the agency has sent to me?”
Confused, Selena tried to process all his questions, but he only shook her harder, and she feared she’d have to use her power to get him under control.
“Calm down, Zach. Stop shaking me and I’ll try to answer your questions.”
He released her and stared at his hands, then at her as if he couldn’t believe he’d manhandled her.
“It’s okay, Zach. You’re confused. Amnesia does funny things to people. No two cases are ever the same. But there are some things you should know. Things about you and me.”
“You better start talking.”
“Can you at least put on some clothes first?” she asked, glancing at his erection.
Zach shook his head, then walked over to the dresser and pulled out a pair of jeans, anyway. He pulled them on without bothering with underwear, or stopping to button them. “Okay, now talk.”
“Because of your amnesia, and the fact you were MIA for so long, no one really knows what happened to you or where you’ve been. The scars on your back are new, though.”
“So everyone is sticking to the story that they don’t know what happened to me?”
“I’m sorry, Zach. I understand why you’re upset, but whenever anyone goes MIA the agency pulls back and denies knowledge. It’s standard procedure, something we all know going into this.”
“I don’t know anything anymore,” he growled and turned away from her. He walked back over to the balcony doors and looked out at the night sky.
“All I know is that someone wants you dead, and they are willing to kill anyone that keeps them from you.”
“So why did they send you to me? Aren’t you upset that the agency basically gave you a death sentence?” he asked as he spun back around to look at her.
“No.” Selena smiled and shook her head. “It’s not a death sentence. At least not for me. You have no idea what I’m capable of.”
Zach grabbed her and lifted her off the ground as he walked forward and pressed her against the wall. He kissed her forcefully, lips and teeth tugging and biting at her as he held her up, pinned in place.
Selena didn’t resist, she held still and remained passive until he regained his control and looked at her in horror. Suddenly, he released her and took a step back, his gaze focused on her mouth. Already, her lips felt swollen and bruised. As she swallowed, she detected a hint of blood, and wondered if his intent had been to scare her or punish her.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered. “I didn’t mean to hurt you, Selena.”
“Yes, you did.” She held his gaze as she spoke. “But it’s okay. I understand.”
“Well, I don’t. You tell me what’s happening. Why do I feel such desire and anger for you? Why do you make me hunger for things no one else does?”
“I don’t know, Zach.”
“I do. I know exactly why they sent you here instead of more men. They don’t want you to guard me. They want you to sleep with me.”
