This is a recipe a friend brought to our family Thanksgiving celebration a few years ago, tasted really good.
Carmelized Toffee Pie
One 9" graham cracker pie crust
14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
2 large bananas
Whipped Cream or Cool Whip for topping.
Prepare pie crust as directed on package.
Boil an unopened can of sweetened condensed milk for 3 hours, making sure there is plenty of water in the pan to cover the can. Watch the water making sure there is always water in the pan and do not let it boil away. (This carmelizes the milk so that it becomes like toffee.)
Remove can from heat and let cool for at least 10 to 15 minutes.
Open can when cooled carefully and pour the toffee into piecrust. Be careful, the condensed milk has caramelized and may shoot out when opening.
Cool then refrigerate.
Slice bananas and arrange over the top of the toffee.
Top with whipped cream or Cool Whip and dust with cocoa if desired.
Refrigerate before serving.
(I believe if you search on the net there is a way other than boiling the can, lol, if you don't want to do that to get it to carmelize. Though my friend and then my two sisters and niece did it this way with no problems. Just be careful when you first open that can).
