I currently have two mainstream historicals (meaning not Inspirational) under my belt. They are ON EAGLE'S WINGS and IN YOUR ARMS. One is an Indian time travel romance, the other a cowboy romance.
EAGLE is still a best seller, and it was released in August of '05!! I guess it's a fan favorite. I wrote the entire first chapter thinking I was going to merely write a "normal" historical Indian/white woman romance. But I looked around and saw that paranormal things were HOT in romance, so I took a look at my first chapter and thought, "What can I do to throw in some paranormal?" Well, when I was younger, my father and I used to have long talks about people from the future who, if they could come to our time, wouldn't be able to do a thing, or else they'd alter the timeline. This thought popped into my head because of the "almost" rape scene at the beginning. I thought what if she was meant to get raped? And just like that, an entirely new plot revealed itself to me.
I think people like EAGLE because it's a different spin on the same ol' genre. This time it's the HERO who's time traveling, and he's doing it on PURPOSE. He's a Time Tourist. This is a far cry from finding some trinket from antiquity that whisks you away to another time or the swirling vortex some characters fall into. LOL
Then there's IN YOUR ARMS, an historical about a tortured hero. I loved writing that one. No paranormal in this one, just some good cowboy angst. Yeehaw!
Anyhow, we can yak about these books (and any future historicals I may have) in this thread.
