Jessie envies her sister Ali her wonderful husband and family and hopes to find herself one day, but in the meantime she is enjoying her stay at the Latimer home on Long Island, at least until Linc’s bad boy brother Monroe shows up.

Monroe has truly grown up in the school of hard knocks, overcoming an early stint in jail to develop his art. He avoids commitment since he believes he can never have a family, but Jessie tests all his resolutions.

A summer house on Long Island is the setting for a romance between a drifter artist and a young woman fresh from a broken engagement. Their pasts make them reluctant to admit to a love that will not be easy.

I always enjoy a story set in my home area and you really cannot get much closer than this. Monroe and Jessie are real and well developed characters who with difficulty overcome fears and prejudices to be together. Jess’s sister and Monroe’s brother are wonderful characters who help to add background to the story and little Emmy is an absolute joy. The reader will not be able to put this one down until the end.
