Police Officer Clay Carter has been shot, and his personal life is a mess. Drinking, gambling, and such seem to be his downfall. That is, until he decides to take a stab at being a ranch foreman and getting back to what he used to love. Meeting and working with Lee Ann is just icing on the cake.

Lee Ann Waters is tired of just getting by with the meager pay from a job at the doughnut shop that she took after having to sell off her fathers ranch, a place she loved to be. After spotting the ad about a foreman needed at a nearby ranch, she jumped at the chance. She never expected to meet and fall for someone like Clay.

Clay and Lee Ann are both hired at the ranch under a trial period to decide who would make the better foreman. They both work hard at their jobs, though each has their own style: him rough and tough, and her more gentle. They also both find themselves strongly attracted to each other. Can a relationship work past both their reasons for being there?

This was a well-written story that I could not put down. Clay and Lee Ann were made for each other. This is an awesome storyline for this couple. Even the secondary characters earned a place in my heart. I felt more than once that I was right there in the midst of the ranch.
